the hip is not being attacked, though. if you get put in that move, and you dont tap out, you are not gonna have a broken hip, you are going to pass out and possibly have an injured neck. the leg is grabbed to prevent the dude from squirming around and escaping, while at the same time providing superior leverage for the person applying the choke. people tap out to that technique cause they cant breathe, not because their hip is locked or attacked. grabbing on to that leg allows you to bend the opponents neck at an extreme angle.

I realize the neck is being cranked, I always did. You must not understand the mechanics of the hip because that girls hip is out of it's normal range of motion thus causing extreme pain in the hip as well as the neck. The unofficial name for that hip lock is the "Bannana Split"

even still, its the choke that causes the tap. people dont tap from that technique because of hip pain, they tap because of neck pain and not being able to breathe. the leg is grabbed simply to enhance the choke. i disagree with it being a hip lock. the more your hip is extended like that, the tighter the pressure on your throat and neck becomes.

same choke, but he grabs the leg differently. the leg is grabbed simply for leverage, you can see how it helps it bend his opponents neck. its also to prevent escape. this is why the leg is grabbed in the same manner when applying some armbars, prevents the guys hips from moving and not allowing him any escape.

eh,..... not much. (?) He was a bit rough with his submission. They need a DQ rule for excessive force. IT'S A GAME. No need to torque his elbow that hard. IMHO...(bad Judo) Especially if he was expected to compete again later.

                            Nice sweep though... Fast feet!

your not supposed to let go till the referee stops you. thats just how it goes when you are competing at that level. maybe the referee should have stopped it sooner??

You're supposed to CONTROL the opponent and give him time to submit, Not trying to rip his arm off until the ref steps in.

Kind of goes with the uniform. There is no need or reason to inflict serious trauma. It's a game. I can understand wanting to get the submission, being a little excited in the heat of the moment but he tweaked that guys arm on purpose. His humility display at the end was apologetic... He did wrong. He knows it. Does he boast of it too?
