  • probation stopping me from learning jkd =[

the sifu here is considering whether i can join his jkd class yet because i am on probation. =[. he says that he thinks it is best for me to join jkd when i am off because i might get into a fight. this makes me think that jkd is actually very affective in street fighting. i am also very disappointed that i will not be able to start learning. i have went to one of his class to try it out and i liked it very much and felt very comfortable, i also felt that i learned a little bit more and i will continue to learn more if i go. i am very bummed out because i wont be able to learn yet.

It is the instructors right to refuse to teach someone, but I think you training in JKD would work in an opposite effect. If you take it seriously, and dedicate yourself to it, you'll find balance, and focus, and it will keep you out of trouble. It's almost like joining a team, where there's a built in support system. I'd talk to him more, and if you're serious, convince him this is the right thing. It's up to you to exercise self control, and stay clear of trouble. Look at it this way, if you love the training, getting into trouble while on probation will keep you from training more!

Good luck! I hope it all works out for you!

Don't give up! If you end up having to wait until you are off probation, spend your time getting yourself into top physical condition. Do your cardio, do strength training (as opposed to body-building), do your reading. Take some classes in related arts - fencing, boxing, wing chun, wrestling, BJJ. You'll excel, even if you have to wait, once you can finally start training, if you're in top shape.

I know you don't have to say anything (and it's best if you don't), but, what were you on probation for anyway? If you were on probation for an assault, that would explain why your teacher wants you to chill out for a while. If that's not the case, i find it strange that your teacher wouldn't want you to train. The martial arts are supposed to make you into something other than an a***ole who knows how to brawl.... Of course, if you got into a fight and got convicted then that tells your teacher something.
If you're on probation for something that doesn't raise eyebrows ask your teacher to reconsider. If he doesn't I'd go find another school.
BTW, if you do end up training make sure your PO doesn't give you a hard time (i.e. let him or her know and get permission first). Good luck regardless!

HA HA! Serves you right! I wouldn't train you either...

You think you got off easy with probation right? Sucks to be you!

Seriously, keep your nose clean and ask again when you're off...

Don't try to convince him to make an exception for you. If it were me I'd be inclined to refuse to ever teach you if you push the issue.

Humility, mildness and SELF CONTROL! Get a grip! Take this seriously and maybe you can join after you are no longer under court supervision. Think of it as a reward for good behavior.

              All the best!

                      testbuggie

Now that you've shown your ass, nothing more needs to be said. Its obvious that you have issues and are not ready to begin training in martial arts until you get your head on straight. I was almost ready to come to your aid until you posted the last one. Timing is everything!

LOL And you feel bad because he won't teach you to punch and kick? Like I said, get a grip!

The essence of any martial art is self control. Work on THAT! See the little tantrum you throw over a few words on the internet is a VERY GOOD REASON not to teach you anything.

I don't blame him for rejecting you in fact I applaud him for it! You're nothing but a little pisser that would ruin his school's reputation!

I have good intentions. Think of it as a test and see the result...

We can take him at face value or we can dig a little deeper to uncover the reality that might not be readily apparent.

And NOW you know why I took the path that I did!
