IMHO JKD is really just cross-training in all 4 ranges. If someone wants to make more (or less!) or it than that, so be it.
Jun Fan, on the other hand, is still a "cousin" of Wing Chun at the very least.Lee never departed from wing chun physics, even if he sloughed off techniques.
I had to laugh at someone on another thread saying that Lee created his own style because he had no teaching credential. In Wing Chun, skill was the only rank. And skilled BL was! Lee knew and practiced forms (!) from dozens of Chinese styles. He even did the background research for Leo Fong's book
on Sil Lum Kung Fu. Leo's teacher refused to give him the interpretation of the basic "Lin Wane Kuen" form, so Lee broke the form down himself and taught Leo how to reconstruct and teach the form. Not bad for a 20 year old punk-ass who knows nothing and needs to get a spanking.

As far as the "kung fu" aspects of things. "Kung Fu" means roughly "hard" or "dedicated" work in Chinese.
Many people can exhibit "kung fu" in the Chinese working class.
Doctors can have good "kung fu."
Carpenters can have good "kung fu."
School teachers can have good "kung fu."
So in this sense, you can compare just about anything to "kung fu." .......but hardly anyone would argue that a doctor teaches anything resembling a combat art.

re
there are many generic terms for Chinese fighting arts-- gung-fu or kungfu, wushu, chaun-fa, etc.
WINg Chun's origin is disputed, but it was basically a speed style with high stances, designed to counter power styles using low stances.
JunFan is modified Wing Chun.
For most in the BL lineage, Thai Boxing, Jujitsu, and FMA have superceded the Chinese influence.
