...it was during this that an extra challenged Bruce in real life. He wanted to experience Bruce`s Jeet Kune Do. Bruce drew a circle on the floor and told him that he had 3 punches to knock him out of it. The extra couldn`t do it, so Bruce told him, "OK my turn". He pointed to his shoulder blade and said "I`m going to hit you right here, are you ready?" The guy said "What do you mean, am I ready?" Before he could say anything, his teeth started falling out of his mouth. Bruce was just SO fast. Another extra challenged him. They sparred for a bit, then the guy got kicked in the head...and that was enough.
Have a look at Enter the Dragon, the fight between Bob Wall and Lee. Look how fast he is (you ll probably have to play it in slow motion in fact) : there is one hand pushing Bob's arm, and the other hand punching while stepping forward. (a few people have noticed the first hand in fact)
Same movie, in his room when he performs 3 or more punches in less than half of a second.
And please noboy says "it is a movie". The guy is behind the camera with no tricks unlike other action movie actors like Jet Li or .. hem Van Damme (lol) . You REALLY got to be fast.
Another example, the footage of the Karate tournament in long beach before Lee perform the one inch punch, he delivers 2 punches that stops 1 millimeter or so from a guy standing. It is exceedingly fast.
Lots of fights have been witnessed during Lee's films and look at his face, nothing : you have to be really self confident in your technic to risk your carreer for a simple fight, in fact he probably didn t think it WAS a risk That how good he was

Guys, Bruce has kicked a 300 pound bag to the ceiling, says one of his close friends Wally Jay, Bruce weighed in the range of 140lbs. And it is much harder to hit a 300lbs bag than a 300 lbs person. Still people think Bruce was fake or wasn't the best. In an iterveiw Brandon Lee said they had to slow Bruce's moves in movies down because the man was incredibly fast. Joe lewis took down Muhammad Ali in a full contact fight after Ali said he was not only the greatest boxer but the greatest martial artist, we know Ali fought a lot of real contact fights, and Joe Lewis in a matter of seconds had Ali pinned to the ground. Chuck Norris beat Joe Lewis in the 1967 Long Beach tournament I believe that's the correct year. And when Chuck Norris sparred with Bruce he says that he could not lay one hit in on Bruce. Now that is proof my friend Muhammad was great Lewis was Greater, Chuck was Even better, Bruce Lee my friends now he was the best.
Ive seen amature boxers in my home town punch with blinding speed in street fights.1 example;A fight when I was working one night 1 guy approached the other and he just dropped it was that fast!Noone even saw it!
I know from personal experience that when your famous things get exagerated.
Im pretty famous around these parts.lol.jk
Im not a big lee fan but i respect the mans acomplishments.
i have to say bruce lee is awesome!!! who knows if he was really the best or not (im kinda leaning towards it lol) but the really important thing is that he opened a lot of doors and has inspired (and is still continuing to inspire) a lot of martial artists
other than in movies? Did he fight other great fighters such as Mas Ohyama?
Although I'm not a "Bruce Lee Historian" I would have to say that he did, based on two word....
JOE LEWIS.
Joe Lewis was one of the pioneers of Full Contact Karate back in the "day" and every champion who was "anybody" including Benny Urquidez, Mike Stone, Bill Wallace or chuck Norris testified of his skill in fighting. Joe was one of these no nonsense guys who had a "dont tell me, SHOW ME" attitude. Bruce Lee was one of his instructors and training partners. Now being the kind of person that Joe was, He was NOT the kind of guy who would just let ANYONE teach him, you had to SHOW him that you could fight, and would fight, and that probably meant FIGHTING HIM.
I'm guessing that Bruce showed him that he was the real thing! Just my speculation, mind you, but a very good one! Also, in that particular era of Karate history the MAJORITY of those guys fought rough and tumble! Dont believe for a minute about that "non contact stuff" Trust me, guys got their teeth knocked out and got sent to the hospital! In my particular dojo we had a motto, "do one leaves until there's blood on the dojo floor" It was pretty rough back in the "day!"
i have just gone through 15 pages of disturbing and amusing posts.
i guess the question was bruce lee, did he fight?
the obvious answer is yes. anyone who puts up a martial arts system is bound to be challenged to prove the worth of his system.
if you are asking who? i can venture two names only that hasn't been mentioned. 1) trubador ramos, sr. 2) dan inosanto.
what proof? i have none to give except of the people who were there (some of whom have trained me in martial arts). who won?....i'd rather not say.
the fact is, his system stands. his students have made it good. therefore, i guess he won enough of his fights for that to happened.
p.s. i'm not from jkd. i admire what the man has done but take his teachings with a grain of salt. if he said: "use what is useful" then i choose to apply that to even what he says. he was a great man, but man nontheless.
Lee's quickness was unquestionable.
I recall seeing a clip of the Longstreet episode, entitled"intercepting first" thee's this one scene where Bruce is wearing this red tracksuit and explaining the interception concept to a skeptic who wanted a demonstration. Bruce asks the guy to move towards him and I SWEAR all that you see is Bruce's leg in chamber. Bruce explains to the guy that when he moved towards him he intercepted his movement with the kick.... The first time i saw the ckip I said to myself BALONY! you didnt even TOUCH the guy. Well, I rewound the tape and played it in S-L-O-W motion. I noticed that Bruce chambered his leg, kicked it out and then retracted it. When you run it normal speed you dont even SEE the kick coming out! Now, I'm definitely NOT a "Bruce Lee Worshipper", but seeing THAT made a believer out of me.
I'm sorry, Sir Shootodog, but I'm mentioning it as a question: How true is it that Trubador Ramos beat Bruce Lee? That there exists a piece of film showing it? And it purportedly helped Bruce improve his own skill?
