Stop worshipping Bruce

Okay here is my take on this. Bruce Lee was way ahead of his time, and deserves to be respected. Like him or not, but you have to respect him. There might be people who have worked just as hard as him but nobody worked harder.

Don't worship, but it is okay to idolize him. He has inspired me for sure! People say he didn't fight anyone, but he constantly fought. People say there is no video of him fighting so how do we know. I've never watched a video of Pilgrims coming over on the Mayflower either, but I don't doubt that it happened. There was witnesses, and I recently read in Black Belt magazine about him point sparring with famous champions, and they couldn't score on him.

People talk about what type of fighter would he have been if he lived, and if he could match others today. Well we will never know, and I don't have a problem with that. I feel if he was still alive today that people would be lineing up to fight him so they could make a name for themselves. I could go knock out Ali right now, but that doesn't mean that I'm better than he was.

I just feel people should respect what he's done in the short amount of time he was given, I know I do. He was martial artist first, actor second. Respect the fact that he was authentic, and had many of the same beliefs as we do today. There is even some that have met and trained with him, that bad mouth him from time to time, but all I can say is why didn't they talk like this when he was alive. Just respect the guy is all I'm saying. Like him or not, we should all acknowledge him and respect him.

I think Lizard has a lot of jealousy going on here. Too many people have great respect for Bruce and suddenly it's not 'cool' anymore, lol? Instead of trying to be a smartarse and churning out sarcasm, why not spend your time trying (and failing) to be better than Lee? Maybe then your body will adorn posters on people's walls, and have books written about you.

Bruce was a marvel. He was the fittest man alive and his physique, diet, training and fighting reflected it. How many people do you know who can do 1/2 finger pressups?

And no, I don't think he would get his 'ass kicked' by our modern top martial artists, unless you can point one out to me that has anything near to his strength to weight ratio. And don't forget, they will have had 30 more years of experience and development to learn from, including Bruce himself, which is an unfair advantage. If you resurrected him now, I'd bet my life that he'd train his ass off even more and catch up on every development to JKD, and mix in new developments from other styles too, and utilise newer health supplements and gym equipment.

I haven't seen anyone here 'worshipping' him, more like respect. Idolise maybe, but he's a damn sight better idol than some shallow celebrity like David Beckham, or Eminem. People sometimes need/want idols, and I don't see what's wrong with having Bruce as one.

I believe he was one good fighter and his training in the traditional Chinese martial arts gave him a great foundation that he later took for granted. I don't personally idolize anyone but I do think he was a great fighter but he did not invent Jeet Kun. Keet kun is one of the oldest fighting methods in many Chinese Martial arts- including mine. It is very effective if you practice sparring with it.

I also think that Bruce Lee got a lot of publicity concerning very private matters of martial arts which were very hidden at the time he was around.

I like Bruce, I think he was a swell guy. I even read some of his books. I liked the parts that said doing it because Bruce did is a dumb idea. I liked the parts where they said imitating Bruce was a dumb idea and would not make you a better martial artist. Worship is stupid. If you want to in any way pay a tribute to Mr. Lee, take what you can from his teachings and discard what is not useful to make yourself better.

why does he get dissed so much(Bruce Lee)i mean all he did was train harder and study more to be better at what he obviosuly enjoyed doing which was learning martial arts and trying to find ways of improving his ability's and what came with it was probably down to all his hard work becoming famous for doing something he loved which i dont reckon is a bad thing so if maybe people spent more time training than worrying about dissing dead poeple they would maybe see there is more to life.i am a big fan of Bruce lee just for the simple fact when i seen this small guy in his movies do what he could it gave a wee skinny kid the get up go to train myself hard and build muscles that i never thought i could have done before i dont worship him but thank him for being a good influence on part of my life,i don't think he ever said his way was the gospel or say he was the best in the world i will leave that for all the people living in fantasy land...

Why would anyone care if people worship Bruce Lee or not? I don't give a rats ass if someone decided to create an altar to the guy and got on their hands and knees every night to pray to him. I don't care if they perceive the Tao of JKD as their gospel. I don't even care if they feel that their skills are invincible. That has absolutely nothing to do with me, so why should I or anyone else care? Does it really matter to anyone what the other guy/girl believes? Why? How does that affect you personally?
