Why don't you just get the WTF and ITF together.... set up rules and have a tournament to see which is better? Or you could just attack each others kwans until the last man standing....

      WTF is Superior because...

If you want honesty, the thing that makes the WTF "Superior" to the ITF is the fact that the WTF through the KTA (Korean Taekwondo Federation) has the full financial support of the South Korean Government. Despite the fact that it is a martial arts group or martial sport group, depending on how you want to look at it, the WTF is primarily a political group. It is mostly run by politicians. The ITF is run by martial artists.

Regardless as to which organization produces the best fighters, or which group's version of TKD is the "true TKD", the WTF knows what it wants and it has the political experience and leverage to get it.

        Hello,

The question should be what do you want from your TKD:

If you want a sport – WTF.

If you want a martial art & sport – ITF.

If you want to buy your belt – ATA.

If you want a martial art – TSD or an Independent TKD.

What do you want out of TKD?

        Now you chose.

          Maddog,
It's obvious that you have some kind of problem with ATA, and i'm not sure why. However, I have been studying at an ATA Dojang for four years, and i can hardly call my training purchasing a belt. I've spent coutless hours on the mat training, not cutting checks, and i have the skill to show for it. I will agree that on average most ATA schools are mcdojos. I have visited three and every one of them has had quality instruction, honest business, and dedicated instructors. Sorry to stray from the topic, but i'm tired of the ATA bashing i see all over this forum.

good reply bugei, my nephew is in the ATA, and I went to a tournament he was in a while back, and I saw some outstanding MA performance. Another thing I noticed was the outstanding politeness and courtesy from all students. I agree with you about the ATA bashing, and feel that they have been stereotyped.

WTF was "created" for world ametuer (sp) competition A.K.A. Olympics. Most people who train WTF would say it is the best of the TKD's for the simple reason of the full speed full contact style of fighting.

Someone in this thread said the WTF competitors give up power for speed... However it is known that speed = power. I have watched the ther types of TKD's Tourney's and to be honest how does anyone in that MA know how hard they really hit in a "true fight" environment. I do have respect for each and every TKD MA for each is designed for specific reasons.

I am a heavy competitor in WTF, but I also have won numerous Open Tourney's. All of the ITF Tourney's I have watched were point system anyways. Score a point and the match breaks and resets. If there are other types of Tourney's please let me know.

If you wish to see how successful WTF is compaired to the other popular MA's go to Colorado Springs at the Olympic Training Center and watch the US Open. I am sure most of those people who believe WTF is useless against other MA's will learn that that belief is a myth. Almost every year the gold medalist is a WTF fighter.

The US Open is a real time, real contact Tourney. Yes they wear the typical sparring gear of the sport, but I assure you it is needed.

Hmmm... Interesting considering the amount of threads against WTF (including this one). Please read the title of this thread.
