Yes, you are right! I have no experience in a full contact venue, but my instructor has. He tells me to keep my hands by my head along with moving out of the way. So guess what: I will trust his judgment over yours!
And still, you are the one with no clue and no experience. Take the time and talk to a neurologist about brain damage. Might yield some interesting insights for you.
'Sports TKD' a la Duckdodgeduck is the only branch of MA to advocate to leave the head unguarded...hmmm. I am going with the majority on this one.
And stop telling people they have no grounds to join the discussion. Make your own forum and you cna make the rules!

They are all in the same league as your post #98. You should take some time and learn some real martial arts, then you might have something to add. When you do, get back with us.
You're not going to save your face this way, champ. Just man up and admit you said something stupid and be done with it.

That's what I thought. Enough said.

Dodge, I'm just curious, now according to your philosophy one should have their hands down in order to facilitate greater mobility.
Fair enough, thats your opinion and you're entitled to it.
Now you say that you have entered all these competitions both sport TKD and otherwise, now I have no reason to doubt you so I won't.
But can you honestly say that thanks to your superior mobility you've never been hit whilst practicing this belief?

#1. Teach your students to depend on movement first, covering (what some call blocking) second, and drill it over and over.
#2. Being able to move away from, or roll with the hit is the highest skill. Standing there trying to block everything will get the blocker knocked out.
I don't say, "Oh, everyone should spar with their hands completely down to their side. I am saying that if your movement is excellent, and you have your opponent figured out, it is possible to spar, hands down. We see it in boxing all the time, when a boxer is very confident against an opponent. Take Ali, Sugar Ray, etc. Many many examples in boxing.
I do agree that one needs great cover/blocking skills, and should use them. However.............
It is the uneducated instructor that teaches his student that hands up will save him, it won't, but movement will.
Yes, I have been hit with my hands down in past. I rolled with it, I never got knocked out.

nah, not stupid, just dumb luck...
Just because you have not been knocked out does not mean your technique is superior...
I did ask one of my trainers about that (yes, he read the thread, I send him the link) and while he grands you that much that dodging is best, he still drills the hands up into all of his students...and he has RL experience in TKD and other MA usage...

You know, i may be the 40th dan of absolute suck (barely 90 degrees of stretched leg angle, drunkard reflexes, brittle bones, slender but still like a sissy, started martial arts 12 years too late, bad back, over 2kg worth of fist impact, played too much Tekken), but i don't need a black belt and "real experience" obtained from fighting dozens of combatants to realize that keeping my hands up would get me a few broken arm bones instead of a severely fractured skull, brain damage with subsequent vegetative state, or death...
Sorry to burst your bubble, uncle, but if i was to choose between style or breaking more bones to quench sadistic thirst, i'd choose the latter.
