It is anoying but true, so many martial art clubs now are so concerned with the safety aspect that they forget why people are even trainning. I was lucky, i found a hard Ju-Jitsu class that the main priority of it was to make the students hard, and able to look after them selfs. After each lesson i had bruses and stuff, but thats what made it more enjoyable i knew i was learning good useful stuff. Unfortunately that club closed down through lack of interest due to the class being to tough, people were coming but didn't want to get thrown properly, pathetic. I tried other local jujitsu clubs, utter rubbish, i wasn't even breaking a sweat, and these were expensive clubs with loads of students, all with quite high belts which they didn't deserve. holding a belt might improve your self confidence but hardly anyone anymore have actually earned them. Martial art clubs are going down hill.

          Si,

You have just mirrored my jujitsu school and I thank you for how you described your jujitsu training.

I definitely have to disagree with you there. Every martial art has its own doctrine about how they fight and defend themselves. Tae Kwon Do believes since the leg is much stronger and longer than the arms, they prefer to throw multiple kicks to keep their opponent at bay. Aikido uses your opponent's force against you. Muay Thai uses its "eight limbs" (hands, elbows, knees, and legs) to kick the shit out of their opponents. BJJ wants to take you to the ground and choke you out or break bones. Yes, a lot of martial arts have SIMILAR techniques, but very few of them are thrown in the same way. There's a big difference between a kung fu side kick, a karate side kick, and a ninjutsu side kick for example.

                TKD Bashing?

Whats the point in bashing TKD. The teacher I had literally changed my life he helped me to realize how much i like MA. This was probably only because everyone was pushed to their limit. When I joined I was 12, the training was insane for my yellow belt i had to demonstrate all the usual forms plush i had to show how I could defend myself against a full grow man (without using a groin kick ) he was only going 50% but it was pretty hard since I was 12. After when I thought my test was done he made me do 50 pushups and med contact spar 3 of the green belts. That's what I call a good work out, my gi was literaly soaked from all the sweat. So it just goes to show there are some good TKD instructors out there.

                  You are right there are.

Also there are tons of bad ones but the people who actually have a true drive to master martial arts arnt going to let some idiots at a mcdojang keep you from becoming awsome.

I have had some good teachers and then bad ones but I kept going on my own.

kungfupanda, are u for real. anyone who give shit to another style of martial art are obviously insecure about what they r doing themselves. Reading your post makes my day so much brighter, coz i laugh each time i think about it.
Dont hate what u dont understand

Wow you guys are having a world war 3 on this topic
But People are different...the way they learn are different.Ive seen some crazy tkd guys not just using fancy kicks but actually owning the opponent in a series of kick combos. And then i had my share of where some guys just get owned themselves. All schools teach differently...my old tkd skool was basically a belt factory but other skools my friends went to,tkd was more violent using elbows and open palms like the old days.
But then again,we all have our own opinions

As for MT vs TKD, MT's going to have the majority of the advantages as they are used to hard full-contact sparring, head punching, and no protective gear whereas the majority of TKD is padded and usually point fighting or mild sparring. If a TKD guy did a lot of sparring with friends or whatnot, he would get a lot better especially if he honed his techniques to only the effective and took some boxing classes, but in all seriousness for the most part the average MTer would stomp a good TKDer just due to the fact of full-contact unprotected sparring.

everyone thinks tkd is wearing protective gear and point scoring? look out side the square boys and girls. Before tkd turned to competition which is wear the protective gearing was founded. what do u think they did back then? wear pillows under there doboks? there are still some schools sticking to the traditional martial way. Which is purely self defence and non competition. Remember all martial arts came from people trying to survive in everyday living , not winning trophies. in real life situations i will do what eva it takes for me to survive. if it means ripping an eye out or kicking square in the goulies ill do it.

hey popit and lockit, put your glasses on and read what i wrote. vale tudo is still competing?? vale tudo means anything goes but it is a competition, just with minimal rules. i cant remember the last time someone tried to start a fight with me and we went to a ring and put on training short and went at it. Real life situations bro. but thanks anyway man, ill try to explain to my next attacker while hes not trying to stab me that we should go to a gym and get changed and fight in a ring. coz thats real fighting. hmm i wonder if he will agree?
