Axe Kicks What the Heck are they good for? I'll tell you what they're good for, when you've beaten down your opponent with out mery and he is lying on the floor (face up prefferably, its cooler if they see it coming) you look left to right, or right to left your preferance, making sure to make eye contact with everyone watching, take a deep breath commence axe kick holding it at the top for a sec for added dramatic effect, then SLAM IT DOWN AND CRUSH HIS HEAD LIKE A GOD DAMN GRAPE while letting out a ferosious roar so people know you mean business. That ladies and gentlemen is what axe kicks are good for.

I can easily figure out that an old style Karate rising block is not done with a heavily bent arm. The arm is more accurately described as curved, and correctly applied it will, indeed, redirect an Axe kick.
Don't get me wrong. I am not a fan of the Age Uke. But it can work.
Full circle. I can also figure out that you don't seem to know what you are talking about.

he ok 2 things... first I'm talking about blocking an axe kick from someone close to my weight category which makes a huge difference. It becomes VERY hard to block ANY technique coming from someone that outweighs you substantially.
Second, I kind of agree with Thai Bri about the angle of the blocking arm, I don't block axe kick with the wrist... I keep my arm slightly bent and block with the forearm near the elbow, it's much much stronger of a blocking tool than up near the wrist so I can see why you had misgivings about blocking axe kicks if you thought it was using the wrist.
Vaseline in the closet by yourself? Sounds like a party! Man that was the most insults in the shortest typed message I've ever seen. That deserves an award or something.

The rising block should have the arm bent with the forearm at a 45 degree angle when in contact with the downward blow, thus causing a glancing effect, rather than unsuccessfully taking the whole 'weight' of the impact.
Personally I'd rather 'slip' the axe kick and take the blow on my shoulder/trap's, and counter before the asailant can lower his kicking leg.

What does the name "Full Circle" represent? Your anus-like face?
Seems like the TKD black belts agree with me. Now, about that vaseline. Do you want to borrow it whilst you stick your knowledge-less, knob-stick, mamma sucking head up yer own ANUS!
Haw haw haw!
I love myself. I really do!

I know the angle of a rising block, I never said the arm was heavily bent, I believe Thai Bri said that, or added it to my statement anyway. Maybe it works, never tried it, I tend to get out of the way insteadJust seems to me that it's alot of weight/force to put on a forearm, I agree it will deflect the kick to a point, but I imagine the kick will get through, maybe/maybe not powerful enough to do much damage. The guy I train with is about 6'5" and 260 lbs, I'm not going to test it with him.

No, because you showed a total lack of appreciation for what a rising block actually is. When corrected by me I was called a "fucking retard". When corrected by the TKD Black Belts you went all butt kisser-like and did a biiiiiig U turn. You even failed to admit you were wrong.
So, no. You are not a martial artist. Your knowledge is shit, and your character the same.
Y'all have a nice day now.

Look back at the post idiot, you added "heavily" bent arm. I said bent arm, which it is, not "heavily bent". I am a TKD bb in two different systems, myself and the other TKD black belts as you call them can agree to disagree just fine, you and your obvious lack of self confidence can only throw cutdowns to make up for your stupidity. A rising block is an effective block, I just don't think it is effective for an axe kick, if you think differently that's fine, but it doesn't mean everyone who disagrees with you is wrong. So really, YOUR "heavily bent arm" statement is what started the whole thing, deal with it and move on.
