  • Here is a way to beat a bjj fighter

I've never taken any classes in BJJ but i've learned some moves from books and ufc and pride. A friend and i were wrestling for fun and i got a rear choke hold on him. Instead of him trying to find a way out of the choke he simply reached around his neck and grapped my pinky finger and was about to break it before i let go and so he won. What do i do in this situation other than get my finger broken and wait a month for it to heal?

Choke him out, if you had a rear naked properly, he wouldent be able to counter.

Moron??? It's pretty easy to just reach around your own neck touch the persons finger grab it and twist and snap it even if you have a good choke on him. If his natural instinct is not to get out of the choke but to just simply reach at him neck and break your finger than you're screwed.

Jdog, if your hands are positioned the way a submission grappling student would be taught, your fingers would be pretty hard to get hold of in the three or four seconds your friend has to work with before he starts to fade and then passes out (and then gets brain damage, and then dies) .

If you want to learn to grapple, get a school and learn it right. The chokes and joint locks you see on television are more complicated than they look. not to mention more dangerous than they look.

Everything that gregimotis said. When someone slaps a choke correctly your natural instinct (even learned response) WILL be to get out of the choke but you will be a fish out of water and then lights out!!!

Plus, even if we assume what you say is valid, it would appy to JJJ, Judo, Sambo, etc not just BJJ and the title of the thread should be defense against reear choke. Though heavily used and effective the choke is not the only weapon grapplers have, so that wouldn't be enough to beat BJJ stylist.

Even a properly applied choke on someone with a small neck will take longer to work. Keep that in mind.

If he usually responds by trying to grab your hand off the back of his head or bending your fingers, you need to bury your hand better. Reach farther across, past the back of his head.

No, he doesn't bend them backwards. He seperates one finger from the rest of my hand and bends it sideways. I could keep my right hand out of reach but i have to use my left to keep my arm locked in and at least one hand will be within reach if he can't get my pinkie he will get my thumb. When we wrestled before and i got him in a choke he used to try to get my eyes with his fingers but i learned how to counter that.

He tries to gouge your eyes out? Well in that case don't just choke him, start hammering his balls with your heels. If the traditional rear naked choke doesn't work for you, try the variation. just put your right hand around his neck, take your elft hand and lock it tight with your right, and pull back with the left arm. It'll be way harder to get your fingers when your hands are clasped.

Go to a BJJ school and try this move on the instructor. I hope you have insurance.

Well I was hoping he would go in for a massive beating by the instructor, but a student beating works too

You really need to learn how to apply the method correctly. If you were doing it right, he wouldn't have time to feel around for your fingers, he would be tapping very quickly.

Also, it is VERY dangerous to be doing this without a supervisor. What happens if you DO choke your friend out and you can't wake him up?

Am I the only one who keeps his hand clenched when applying the rear naked?

Never had anyone successfully grab hold of my finger while choking them.
