Grappling does not beat a good striker. I was sparring with a friend that does Tai chi at one of the best schools in the country, and we were going almost full out, bare knuckle (we're 18 and dumb, what do you expect?). I shot in for a takedown at the wrong time and caught so many strikes that it looked like the manson family went at my face with a spiked club. And this is a kid my age who studies a so called "wimpy art" (dont get me started) like Tai chi.
Noone should be a grappler, a striker, etc. They should be a fighter. You've gotta practice hard at everything. You may have a natural skill at grappling more than striking and you should hone that, but if you can't strike, you're dead meat in a real fight. I have a great respect for traditional MA (actual traditionalists, people who want to learn to fight, not stagnant Mcdojo rip off schools), and yes many ignore grappling of any kind, but that doesnt mean you might f*** up fighting and catch a strike at the right moment/angle and go down for the count. Any number of MMA fights can show this.

. I weep for the future. Seriously. Watch out for the brutal hand techniques...got it. I should be ok now. Unless I am suddenly stricken with paralysis after a single strike to one of the fourteen chi meridians on my inner forearm. Would your strike make me a paraplegic or a quadraplegic? I'm just curious to know if I'll be able to chi punch you in retaliation
