    • guys being a kiwi living in australia i have a good exposure to some top bjj guys, im in melb we have john will as mentioned and peter de been who is head of gracie barra here they both match it with the best in the world. In referal to purple belts teaching both these instructors have faith in their boys at that level passing on the game. And i would have no doubt that the top ranked Guys being machado and gracie barra brasil lean towards the way that peter and john go about the development of bjj in australia.Ps you guys bicker to much its not a good look for bjj nz all the best.

and Australia has no problems haha. Bro i used to live there, Australia has more politics in BJJ than we do here. at the end of the day it is all bullshit anyway, the majority of people who casue the trouble are the new white belts who think they know it all when they don't. The more senior guys have a little more respect(well some of them anyway), obviously you can tell which sort of person wardancer is, white belt who thinks he knows it all

Thanks for that perspective. The scene over here is actually not too bad politics wise. In fact everyone involved in this thread gets on very well as do their various organisations - with the exception of Wardancer who I think is probably an ok guy, just a bit overly zealous in his beleif that everyone should train with his coach, and obviously there's a language barrier as well.

Pete de Been is a great instructor. I trained at his school in St. Kilda when I was over there last year. It was only for a fortnight, but it was a great experience.

            • i used to train under Darren Mckean in Brisbane, one of Peter DeBeens brown belts. very good teacher.

Do not forget you also have John Donehue in Melbourne as well. I have been lucky enough to either meet or speak to John Will, John Donehue and Peter DeBeen and they are all very nice people

                      • listen guys all differences aside i hope the bjj scene over there is going strong and it seems there is a general interest in the progress of things.I myself come from a very small part of nz and the chance of bjj being there i highly doubt it.I guess its the luck of the draw living in more significant and prominent towns of nz hope your instructors are doin there best to make bjj available to the less fortunate ones.,

                        • Phenom,
Where in NZ are you from?
There is some form of grapple sport in most parts of NZ.

Unfortunately our MMA over here has suffered a bit of a lapse and where we were ahead of Aus(my opinion) a few years back, now we have digressed and fallen way behind.

                            • Phenom, where are you at now? Are you actively training and at what level and do you have plans to return to NZ?

Just to reassure you. This thread is not indicative of the troubles in the Auckland grappling community and on the whole I would say that the entire community get on very well.
For example I myself have offered services to Douglas(the coach of wardancer) for free as a medical officer at several of his tournaments and he has helped me to get fights on kickboxing shows here in Auckland.
I am regularly in contact with him and also the Will/Machado and Tukaha schools here and thats without me even training in BJJ. So its not all doom and gloom
