              • hope it's temporary. I'd hate the see someone stop training due to internet sillyness.

                • Would just like to say that, I apologise guys for the attitude of one of the guys in our club. I couldn't believe what he called Geoff, for starters Geoff is a Brown Beltin BJJ but also a Black Belt in ZDK and deserves the respect of a white belt. Geoff is one of the pioneers of BJJ in this country and I know that as informed from senior guys within the Will/Machado organisation, so thanks Geoff for your hardwork, dedication to BJJ schools all over NZ. John Will graded my first three stripes and I found him to be one of the most insightful an amazing men that I had the opportunity to meet, I even had tea at his house in Geelong invited by him and his lovely family. I also trained at the Academy under Adam Metcalf in West Australia for a couple years. At the moment I am training under Douglas Santos and am one of the senior students in the club, I just wanted to see and experience the different styles in teaching and enjoy what Im doing. I actually stumbled onto this website, y'know (BJJ forums nz) in the browser. I love our sport guys and intend on doing this for the rest of my life plainly because of the friends, relationships and the family feeling that only BJJ can provide. Guardhater one of the nicest and most humblest guys I have had the pleasure to meet, and Geoff the first BJJ seminar and lesson I took was one of yours so thanks for the habit that I can't quite kick (lol). Serge bro you gotta stop! these guys aren't chumps a lot of us owe these guys for getting this sport started in this country, you wouldn't be enjoying this sport if it wasn't for guys like Geoff. Serge get back to training Thats all, thanks everybody!

                  • Nice post - thanks for that. I am not one of those pioneers but being associated with alot of those names you mentioned I appreciate the sentiment. I have been very pleased with what I have seen of Master Douglas, both at the tournaments and in response to this issue (which has spiralled somewhat out of control). I sincerely hope that Serge's exhuberence and the resulting backlash will not result in him stopping training.

                    • Machado

I train under john will and he is fantastic. Great coach and awesome guy. We have the highest ranked instructor in New Zealand under john will at out club. www.academyofcombat. com and he is a great guy and trainer too. We are trained by scott benson(purple belt) and Jason Branks(purple belt too and these guys are marvellous as well.

Be fantastic to see some of you other guys at the comps as well, so happy training and see ya on the mat.

                        • Anyway lol

I sort of red the posts a bit in this forum and I dojnt know about any of the other clubs but the "Academy of combat" where I train was given exactly 4 days notice for the bjj open that they had this year so I dont think that we had enough time to prepare...lol

But anyhow, no matter where you are from it would be great to get some contacts around NZ so that I can have a roll with some of you guys or girls just so that I can get some experience in BJJ as Im relatively new so any BJJ students are more then welcome.

Im only a light weight at 102 kilo's, not that it matters but Id love to roll with some of the heavy weights especially, it becomes more a challenge to me and I will whoop your ass...lol HOPEFULLY...lol Other wise anyone is free to message me as I travel around the country a bit with the job that I have at present.

                          Cheers guys and girls

                          • Quick update since Wardancer seems to have vanished and in case anyone is interested.
Great day yesterday at the 6th NZ BJJ Open. Once again Douglas Santos is to be commended for putting on a great competition. His event gets better with each iteration - this time there was enough notice for BJJNZ's crew to come up, win third in the teams trophy as well as 4 first place medals and most technical fighter.

Much fun and great to see the community both growing and growing closer.

not sure if the full results are posted anywhere yet.
You would certainly be allowed in and yeah it's a great experience - worth about 3 months training at least in terms of what you learn from it.
