I know. I know. This is a silly question that is tangentially related to martial arts, but how much do you bench?

Actually I'm 13 and i weigh 110 pounds so 3x larger wouldnt be too unrealistic for me although i was exaggerating.

I dont think this is a pointless thread either, i recently started doing martial arts and weight training and i just had some thoughts on my mind like this one, sorry i didnt think it out before i typed it up because now i realize and understand some of it and also thanks for all the good feedback.

Furthermore, in regards to the posts about this being a pointless thread... isnt it a little hypocritical to make a whole post just saying that this thread is pointless, when in fact the post that was made in order to say that, IS pointless... just my thoughts

Thanks again for all the good feedback, i understand it now.
o yeah and Dan Inosanto and Bruce Lee are my idols

you're thirteen. you don't have the capacity to discern what is pointless and/or hypocritical. this is evident from your sophomoric attempt to hold your own against criticism that's in the right.

you're thirteen. who are you thinking of fighting? your older sister? get with the program, let your balls drop then worry about becoming bruce lee.

          like my poem?

Haha this is pretty funny, how old are you 20? 30?

I'm 13 yes, how does age measure my capacity to discern what is pointless/hypocritical? And please explain how you can judge by my attempt to hold my own against criticism that is definetly not in the right (read my post above...) that i dont have the capacity to discern what is hypocritical...
For a man that is two or three times my age you sure are ignorant, well not really ignorant because that would mean i have more knowledge then you, which i dont and which is the reason for my posting a thread in my quest for this knowledge.

You're much older then me, who are you thinking of fighting? I have as much of a chance of fighting someone as you if not more, adolescents engage in more fights then adults do...well maybe not in your case seeing as how you have such a ridiculously impudent attitude and behaviour especially towards someone that is 13 years of age.

Anyway I'm not going to bother any more with you, I've obtained the information that i needed and have no need to argue anymore with a "man" trying to prove his intelligence to people of this forum and 13 year old.

            Ill leave you with this..

I thought no silverbacks have been captured and kept alive in captivity???? (I may be dead wrong on this one though, so just wondering).

Kaoshin, as you grow up be very selective about the people that you choose to be involved in your life personally and professionally; trust your instincts. Choose your mentors wisely. If you have a good head on your shoulders and a good heart, life experience will take care of everything else.

                    Koashin:

Judging by your typing your a pretty sharp kid. Tom Yum's advice is very sound. Keep it in mind.

                    Tim

Oh, and I still think trainnig in fighting arts isn't pointless. Physically you'll be able to overcome people that you weren't before training (if for some reason you need to). Plus, as I may have mentioned earlier, the training on the mat carries over into normal life as well. you learn to stay calm in stressful situations, make your own moves, etc.

tom yum's right. choose your mentors wisely. you're barking up the wrong tree on this board.

You've got to go to a zoo sometime. I haven't been to a zoo in a community with more than 30,000 residents that did not have a silverback in their primate exhibit. The term "Silver Back" is generally applied to the dominant male of a family group. The silver comes from the color of the hair on the back of the gorilla as they become more mature (older). The silverback is ALWAYS the biggest, baddest, strongest primate around and he has to prove his toughness on a regular basis when the wee-girly-man gorillas try and step up and move in on one of the silverback's hairy babes.

And TomYum, I don't bench anymore but I military press about 330pnds.

Monstrous! Ever consider Pro-Wrestling? Powerlifting? Strongman comps?

If you can military press 300+, even some of those bigger guys wouldn't be too hard to body slam. I guess they do pretty well for themselves $$$.

GD man you are a brute! Shit thats a lot for a military press. I am a big guy too, not your size though 5'11 3/4'' and 230 pounds. Hell I don't even know how much I can military press, but my bench isn't to shabby.

Sure, MMA produces fantastic fighters, supreme athletes etc. But there is a whole world out there and, of course, real fights are not held on a mat, in a ring, with a ref, no weapons and an extensive rule book.
Amen! Different world the streets, my good friend Matt Skeleton is proven in the ring (K1 champion, fought Tom Erkisson in Pride 17, and now the current British Heavyweight boxing champ, soon to fight Audley Harrison).

When we all worked the doors, there were some awesome fighters known in the day, to name one Andy Townsend, 5th degree in Judo and an undefeated streetfighter (no one I know of beat him), competed in bare knuckle gypsy fights etc - YET never competed in official comps.

If you think I made this up like I say ask Matt Skeleton, or his trainer Andy Goodwin who use to train with me.

Like Thai bri says - MMA comps aren't be all and end all of fighting prowess.
