TKD, wingchun and traditional karate get bashed because of McDojoism. However, there are guys from these styles that have worked security or in military service and have used these arts in real life against non-resisting attackers or behind enemy lines.

What I mean by non-resisting attackers are street thugs that are trying to pound them with their fists or lunatics that go bezerk and attack with anything.

I was watching the oh so wonderful show COPS and saw this huge dude on pcp try to deck a lady cop. She was able to block him pretty well. One of this guys punches cracked a piece of fence! She kept her hands up in out in a karate fashion and tried to talk him down while parrying off his overhands and moving laterally. Her defense bought her enough time to pull out her pepper spray and making him less mobile and more confused.

Its only interesting when they get into a scuffle. The car chases are boring IMO.

I don't like COPS. The narrator is an overtheatrical loudmouth, and there are NEVER any good takedowns... Always just bulling the suspects to the ground while screaming at them (while the announcer talks about the officers putting their years of training to use in this extremely deadly encounter ).

They had a show a few months ago where a cop was chasing a suspect who suddenly turned and pulled a weapon out. The cop put a couple into the guys chest just as the camera was coming around the corner (the body was already on the ground).

The real drama was watching the cop start to get sick. It was a real person faced with an extreme situation reacting in a very human manner.

And besides that, COPS is the only "reality" show that isn't a gameshow (I hate those f*ckin' "who wants to marry a poor a$$ one-leggd albino schizophrenic" kind of shows!) of some sort or an artifically contrived coalition of individuals stuck in an asinine situation for a limited time.

COPS is real. Bad boys, bad boys, what yah gonna' do? What yah gonna' do when they come for you?

That one sounds like it would really make you think...

It's one thing to double-tap someone attacking you with a weapon straight on, but killing someone who is trying to get away from the situation might give some serious nightmares (or at least me). Hopefully the cop wasn't chasing him for spitting on the sidewalk or jaywakling or something stupid..

I'm sure the cop isn't to pleased about re-living the moment over and over again on TV.

I remember seeing one episode where a cop got injured by a suspect and finally emptied his gun into the (subdued) suspect because the cop was going to pass out and didn't want the suspect to kill him while he was out. They were out in the boonies with no one close enough to help. I think it was the right call, but i'm sure he (the cop) thinks about that one every now and again...

As you get older-you get wiser. And you have less fights to "0"

The term "Silver Back" is generally applied to the dominant male of a family group. The silver comes from the color of the hair on the back of the gorilla as they become more mature (older). The silverback is ALWAYS the biggest, baddest, strongest primate around and he has to prove his toughness on a regular basis when the wee-girly-man gorillas try and step up and move in on one of the silverback's hairy babes.

And TomYum, I don't bench anymore but I military press about 330pnds.
JESUS! G, I know your a strong dude, but I had no clue you could put up 330 Military. Well...guess I'll never try rolling with you again with the knowledge that you could snap me like a twig. How do Brian and Brandon manage? They're incredible, but the size difference is like....KAPOW!

This was told to me by a redneck/biker/alcoholic I knew for years that used to fight ALL the time. 4-6 times a month he would get in a street fight. He was 6'1" 180lbs. not a real large guy.
Once he got pretty liquored up he would pick a fight with the biggest person in the bar, and I mean the biggest. You know why? Most real big people do not know how to fight, they have never been bullied, or in a fight, and have never had to stand up for themselves. Their size alone has protected them.

5'10 is a good mix of speed and power, anyone shorter than that gives up power, anyone taller gives up a little speed. And its always the people that are 5'9" - 5'11" that get harrassed. People this size (and I say this generally) are most likely to be confronted, and get in a fight. Most men this size have experience standing up for themselves, and protecting themselves.

He said he never picked a fight with the small guys, cause 1; If they're hanging out with a tough crowd they are probably the most dangerous person there and can whoop some ass. and 2 noone wants to get beat by a little guy. He could get his ass kicked by the biggest dude in the bar and still look good (at least he thought).
