Whatever. Sounds more to me like you're a bunch of old farts bitching about how the young uns these days "have no respect."

Kids talk like that. They did today, and they did when you were a kid. And you did talk like that. So stop being a friggin hypocrite or acting "wise".

Let's be honest, there are plenty of people who compete at that age who lack respect, discipline, and maturity. Just look at TO in football. Or the old Iverson. Martial arts isn't some holy path to spritual enlightenment...at least not for everyone. Most especially, this is the MMA forum...you're going to get a lot of shit talking meatheads in the sport. Take your holier than thou attitude out to the TMA forums.

And you're offended by his balls comment? Maybe you should've noticed that he's saying it as more of a joke, in reference to the fact that martial arts tournaments are sporting events, just a sport where there are no BALLS? Get it? As in baseBALL, basketBALL, etc.

And it's justified when you consider how many injuries happen in soccer, football, and many other sports. You have a lot of people destroy their athletic futures in those sports, yet plenty of unintelligent parents believe that taking that risk is acceptable, while the kind you get in wrestling, or even point sparring martial arts is "too dangerous."

Please read before YOU criticize. Thank you.

Yeah, we old farts are like that. We had to walk for miles in the hard rain. We did not have A/C or central heat. We had to work and do chores for an allowance. Truth is, I DID NOT TALK LIKE THAT to older people or else I'll get cracked.

          Entertaining post.

So you infer that because a certain group of people once made a mistake (i.e. bigheadedness), they are no longer allowed to call someone down for it when they're older and wiser?

The whole world would be a victim of that philosophy, paralyzed by the fear of speaking up about a wrong attitude because they once held it.

I once hated someone. Does that mean I should allow my child to foster hate because I once did? I'm not allowed to say anything because I was once no better?

I recognize in this guy's speaking (not you, the guy with the big balls) a dangerous pattern, when you apply martial arts to the equation.

Big balls is fine in a tournament. It's encouraged, because it takes no small amount of courage to go into a ring and get your bell rung.

But what would happen if he took his 'big balls' out into the street and picked a fight to show how manly he is?

They'd find him in the gutter the next morning, probably with most of his brain gone.

Like I said, I have no problem with competition.

But viewing yourself as having 'big balls' can get you killed. Those of us who know that should have the right to call someone down for having that attitude.

I trained in MMA for awhile. I didn't view myself as a bigger man for it. I realized that I could probably control a situation that got out of hand, because I had the ability to get myself out of it with negotiation, and if it turned ugly, I could hold my own, so don't say that the big ball mentality is pandemic to MMA fighters or those who follow the ideas of MMA.

          I'm out. Later.

Good Lord, you don't get my point. I'm saying it's juvenile humor! A joke! You didn't have a filthy mouth when you were younger? THAT'S my point.

Obviously, telling younger peple drag racing is not smart is perfectly acceptable, even if you did it. But this is like telling someone not to joke around.

And yes, having that attitude can be dangerous. But hey, getting your ass kicked in training or a competition is a great way to safely learn some humility.

I understand that it's juvenile humor. I got the joke too.

But it evidences an attitude that is dangerous in this particular field.

Yeah, I can also relate to that,

Its kind of funny for me, before martial arts I used to walk around looking for fights, now that I have been doing it for awhile I am almost enlightened and scared shitless of getting into a fight ( weird huh?)

yeah, I love to constantly do martial arts yet my parents are telling me that I have to have bigger priorities in my life, I say bullshit, martial arts are a passion and exceed anything else that I want to do..

                  but yeah, we are misunderstood

Yep, because unless you go into an instructor role, it can't be your livelihood.

It won't support you, and barely, if it does.

                        • Yo you guys are crazy. You take every comment so literally. It was just saying, ya know, you dont have to be in a traditional sport to have machismo. Everyone gets caught up in the respect and discipline bs. yeah thats all well and good but for some its a sport that takes having confidence in everything you do. I have respect and am pretty modest on the mat, i respect everyone. Thats not to say that i dont have the eye of the tiger, or whatever else you want to call it. I thought the forum said "we as martial artists." im no artist, but I should be included in we. Go twirl a sword around your head or play with some nunchuks if you wanna get caught up on respect blah blah. i respect the people i train with. i respect my teacher my parents my opponent. but i do have some balls and i give 110% everytime i practice. it takes balls to get out on that mat for even a small tourney. it gives me confidense to know that i have them. this is the internet folks, im not in your face. if you want that come down to my school wednesday nights. ill shake your hand, ask what you do for a living, ask you a bunch of stuff before we train, and well be friends and cool people. but ill show you i got some balls once we start training. lol, i hope all of you do.

                          • haha, and why is everyone calling me a kid. im a grown ass man with a job and a car and i train hard and all that other shit. i was in the marines for four years and i do have a set of balls and some war medals too. i train hard, im a man who gives all hes got, im cool to chill with. it was a joke, and i was mocking a rebel yell, yeah youre right. you guys have a bad day at work or something? someone dissed you doing taekwondo or something? man up and quit pretending your artists. youre either a fighter or not. now take a good look in the mirror.

                            • Wow, it just keeps getting better. Im glad someone got that it was a joke though. The whole parents thinking ball sports are sports and fighting is not. You guys have no ability to decipher what im saying and what i mean from what i write. but youre all so enlightened and close to your personal peak of potential that youre wisdom eclipses all but the elder. its pathetic, and rude, and it shows that you in your infinite wisdom have no understanding of the other man. each man is on his own path and were not all going down to your place bud. it might be fine for you but some people cure cancer, some people fight wars. some raise foster kids and some are dead-beat dads. there is a balance. so while you do it for respect, and discipline, i do it for sport and for a physical and mental challenge. dont fool yourself. i am nothing like you. im that guy that goes to class to learn how to kick some ass on the mat. i dont look for fights, but if fights come to me ill be a lot more ready do handle my biz. i want medals, and trophies, and a black belt, and my name on the internet. that is why i train. ill get the respect. now you need to respect my position in life. go earn your respect being old too soon, ill do it being young forever.

                              • So youre telling me im full of crap? im glad you found yourself. you want a bio just to talk to you guys? man i dont have time to spill the beans on my life story, i didnt know i had to and ive never asked it of anyone else on a forum. straight up, all your pretentious stuff about me puffing up and emulating television, what are you talking about mr miyagi? confucious say what? you guys are pussys if you think that this is all about respect and this that and the other. i didnt join with my buddys to earn the respect of people i dont know. i joined to learn as much as i can, study it, tweak myself and kick some ass. i joined the marines for respect. i went to school for mom and dad, so i dont need anything from you as far as what i should do and how i should act. if it wasnt for guys that thought they should try Xhard and that they should try to be the best, as good as they can be, than the sport wouldnt be anywhere near where it is today. go tell royce rickson and helio that they dont have big balls. they will most certainly tell you its all about the knowhow, the training and the big balls that make anyone anything. respect is earned on the mat and in the tourneys. you make teamates at the practices, but you make winners and losers on gameday. once again, you guys are reading literal when i make a joke. this whole respect thing is getting old. integrity? go enlist and gith for somethign if you need some of that, im in no short supply. quit whining already. if you got balls, and a lot of guys know what this is, than your a fighter who doesnt care about injuries or breaking a sweat. if your just some guy that takes lessons than so be it. but dont sit in your corner with your kneepads tellin me with the bloody lip i dont have balls. i try to train as hard as i can every day. you can say im just mouthing the words when i say i have respect for my teacher, fellow students and competitors. you dont know me, thats yours to speculate, but i have credibility in my school and people dont think im a dick. you can be friendly, be a cool guy and still be a monster on the mat and use whats in your balls (testosterone) to use your muscle and mind and win fights, tapping people out. if you want to go contemplate life and friendships and respect and the tides go sit on a cliff and trim your bonzai tree lol. there are many types of people who participate in "martial arts." we all get different things out of it. so once again, respect me for my line of training. go talk to matt hughes if you want a nice guy, or royce gracie, or countless other guys that stood up and said "im one of the best, you come beat me." we all have our losses, but the guys who have the balls to say it, often turn out to be pretty damn respectable and respectful as well.
