    Anyone have any fine points or suggestions about keeping great balance with knee on stomach position?
    Out of all the positions I am good at, I feel knee on stomach is a weaker one for me. I want to get better, and I was wondering if anyone knew any aspects of it to enhance the ability to ride them quickly with it?

    Any suggestions? When I do get it, I generally feel less control and just revert back to side control, etc.

        well, I am not completly qualified to answer this question but we've been working on this move last week.

        When you are side mounted on your opponent's right side, you need to go from having your left arm from under your opponent's head and your right hand grabing your opponent's pants and chest to chest to:
        quickly place your hand and grab with your left hand your opponent's collar next to his head and with your right hand, grab either your opponent's belt or his right pants leg at the knee. You place your right knee past the belly button along the waist and bend your left leg and keep your let foot on the ground and pull up with both of your hands to create the pain with your knee.
        In a tournament you need to keep this move at least 3 seconds to score any points.

        There are many modifications to the KOS (knee on stomach) but this is the basic move.

        From the KOS, there are many attacks from here.
        But the basics is that your opponent will either try to knock your knee of his stomach with his left hand and you can attack the left arm or he may roll to his left side
        and you can slide your right leg for a full mount(4 ponts in tournament) or let your opponent slide to his left side, grab the right arm and then to for the triple attack with your right foot along your opponent's waist and your left knee behind his head, and you have your right arm in front of your opponent's right arm hugging the arm to your chest.

          If you have a really secure position with the knee, can you try hopping up and down onto your opponents stomach?

            You need to watch how much space you give. My training partner gets me with KOS all the time and the escape I usually use is to turn/spin into it and grab the ankle of the knee he is using and try to torque out of the position by putting pressure on that leg and threating a heel hook. Unfortunately, he usually gets out of it by switching sides, but at least it relieves some of that pressure on my gut and gives me time to maneuver.

                That bouncing the knee on their stomach thing can be dangerous and hurts like hell! I have a friend , with a 20lb wt advantage , who does it to me and it makes me angry and I commence to whipping on his ass. Sometimes he does it to much smaller guys and has hurt them. Some people just show poor judgement I guess...

                  When I've successfully held knee on the stomach it was because I controled my opponent's arm(s) and pulled my knee into him and kept my weight down with my knee diagonally across his chest. When those components are missing is when I get tossed. I'm a big believer in mobility when I'm doing knee on the stomach. To me it's a very dynamic position.

                    Against a person who doesn't know the escapes, KOS can be devistating. That's why you get points for it in a tournament.

                    If you can hold it against a trained fighter in a tournament, it demonstrates you have the ability to absolutely thrash someone with it on the street.

                    It gives you the ability to control and rain down punches while at the same time remaining highly mobile.

                      A good way to maintain control once you get it is to grab the back of the head.Also you can grab the back of the arm and a leg and pull it in real tight.Grab his arm closest to you and the leg furthest from you.That way you can stop him which ever way he tries to shrimp.It also takes away any space for him.Always stay somewhat low.A high knee mount is easily sweept.If he tries to push you in any way on the hips or chest,you will have an easy armbar.Slide into it rather than try and step over.

                        the far knee

                        pushing down (and out a little) on his far knee has worked for me so far; seems to help keep the hips pinned down.

                          a good way to practice is to put your knee on the guy's stomach and let him move around while you try to stay on. the key is to use NO hands/arms and keep your body over his...

                            No hands or arms will work on an idiot.But you will never hold down a good BJJ guy that way.A 1/4 of an inch is all the room I need.and I'm gone.

                              It's not my favorite position eiter, but I find it helps to:

                              Put all your weight on your knee, dont leave your foot on the ground hook his hip with it.

                              Pull up on the near tricep and collar, get his head off the ground (controls near arm, makes it harder for him to move, puts more pressure on him).

                              These are pointers for the basic position, but once your opponent tries to get out, like any other position you have to transition into another position or submission attempt. Hope this helps at least a little bit.
