    danfagella:

According to you a wrestler can't choke on the street, so that means an MT guy can't kick someone in the nuts. A wrestler can control his opponent to put himself in a position in which he can punch the hell out of his opponent whats wrong with that?

Dude I give you credit for being honest with yourself. You don't have to wish to be straight just find a woman and change your life we at defendnet have faith in you!! j/k

Please see Jubaji's comments becuase there is a lot you have to learn about wrestling and it is obvious in yourr post. Infact have you actually started on a team or are you still just playing in the back yard?

What you do not know is that there are a lot of techniques that are illegal now becuase of the injuries they cause. But like Judoka and other fighting sports wrestlers know far more than what is just used on the mat. Also, seriously doubt that any credible wrestler or judoka thinks about hold downs, pins or even submissions.....I would only look to KO, break or injure

Well I dont even know if I will be able to fit either into my schedule at the moment, so im still deliberating. The BJJ(actually they call it just 'grappling' at my school even thought the instructor's credentials are BJJ) is all matwork, but I can usually only attend one 1 hour class of it a week so I dont think im gonna be a major threat on the ground anytime soon. I am definitely picking up some things though, but this week I couldnt get into the gym because my knees and shoulders were pretty painful from soccer and weightlifting. But I was wondering I know you said they do have throws in freestyle, but could you maybe just list off a few, and maybe say what(if there is one) is the big difference between grecoroman and freestyle takedowns. Also, if anyone does judo here or has had experience in it or knows anyone who does it could you maybe tell me a rough percentage of how much groundwork and how much takedown work do they do? Is it 50%-50%, or are takedowns more the focus?

I'm not in a judo school, but its more takedowns than BJJ, it also vareis from school to school.

And yeah, URI has a wrestling team, I am on it (as I said I'm a wrestler, basically). However, I doubt that wrestling prepares me for a FIGHT as well as judo would, just do to the nature of both sports. As I said a wrestler can take people down (hard to shoot on concrete though) and controll them on the ground, but a wrestler doesnt know submission and choking technique, I know I didn't until I got into BJJ. Assuming that niether wrestling or judo places teach striking is probably true, I've seen judo classes and they didn't work on strikes while I was there. So, lets assume that if the wrestler or judoka threw punches they would be sucky ones, though effective enough while controlling an opponent. Still, why give the martial advanage to the wrestler?

Don't take this the wrong way, but you reek of inexperience.

Our next meet it against RPI I beleive, and I weigh about 120 now, I'll wrestle 125.

And yeah, I don't have any expereince in wrestling programs that work as self defence, your right about that.

well, its the lightest college weight, you want me to sue them and make a lighter one? To be honest, I weight 117, not even 120, maybe I should say college wrestling is unfair and that they should make a 115?...No, I'll deal with it and try to win the wrestle offs so I can represent the team.

You need to hit the weights, and soon! And often! That situation is not in your favor.

So, you don't have a starting line-up yet?

We havent been to a single tourney or match yet, its a shame but its the truth, we have been trying to get something with bryant college as well.

Also, I do eat a lot and i "Work out", but i dont like weights all that much, I do them but not too much. I like calisthenics and mat time so much more.

Well, you'd better start loving them if you really want to be competitive at 125.

You know, upon further reflection I'd have to say that if you are walking around at 117, odds are you wouldn't even be competitive at 115 if it were available.
