  • Judoka vs a Striker: How?

This is a hypothetical situation. Let's say a judoka who only knows judo and does not crosstrain comes across a striker martial artist of equal experience.

Judokas would need to get in close to execute their throws and such. However, the striker is not going to just let him. He will kick and punch. If that's the case, how can a judoka, using only judo, effectively close the distance and take out a striker?

This scenario has stumped me for sometime. Everyone here says Judo is effective and I believe so too. But how can you grab someone who won't let you grab him? He will kick and punch and then kick and punch some more.

Please, no more scenarios after this thread. People were angry at you for starting these kind of posts.

In answer to your question...it all depends. Each fighter has his or her own unique style of fighting and move they want to do. Judo does have moves to counter strikes(whether they are effective or not I do not know). In theory certain things work out but other factors influence these things and the result will always be unknown. So the answer is, once again,... it all depends.

      Here we go again.............

Mudo, get your self in a Judo club and try some randori. Take a boxing stance or a Karate stance or any other style of striking you know and see if they mind...

Don't be surprised if you end up on your butt...

Judo has striking techniques of its own and other moves that you'll never see in Judo competition. Plus, all grapplers should know where they are best suited and be able to get there, Judoka get in close like anyone else.

the judo guy will most likely try to smother the strikers punches and achieve a clinch. if u watch yoshida vs vanderlie silva in pride, this is what yoshida did. yoshida is an olypic judoka and silva(muay thai) is one of the best strikers around. everyone though yoshida was gonna get demolished but he fought hard and went the distance with silva. he lost to decision, but was not able to be stopped by silva. if u watch the match, u will see that yoshida was able to smother silvas flurries quite a few times by getting in real close and then achieving a clinch. its risky vs a good striker, but it can be done. download this match if u can, its straight up judoka vs striker match, and its a really good one. im sure it will give u a good example of how judo can be used vs strikers.

Deashi or Ko soto gari would work if the timing is right.

How do you punch someone who sdoes not want to be punched. You definately should get a refund from your instructor and don't make it know you have a BB in anything but Tae Bo yoga
