Matt Huges is an animal!

Being a wrestler,boxer & wrestling & boxing coach I was so happy to see Hughes
win, it shows my wrestlers something, hard work, & muscle pays off!!!

In high school we had this kid who was black belt so in so in this and that, the supposed killer, I can't tell you how many times his face ate resilite in the wrestling room, until he came up with whatever excuse he had for why he got openly slammed over, & over, so Matts win goes out to you Indiana Rick !

I am so tired of the myth of the 120 lb guy taking out the well conditioned athelete it is time Boxing, Wrestling (freestyle & Greco get thier due) Thank you Matt, you make it easier to coach and teach kids to be motivated to work to greatness!

A 120lb guy can take out a well conditioned athlete easily if they're not well rounded, just watch an old UFC or NBA fight. Matt is very well rounded and athletic which is why he deserves to be and is the champion. Nice quote.

again, Royce looked like a white belt and didnt nothing that he trains anyone else in the world to do, he gave his back, his arm, he didnt replace guard and he laid flat on the mat.....all major mistakes that a black belt never makes, the worst humiliation for any Gracie ever in any fight ever.

bah, it had as much signifigance as Rocky Marciano versus Joe Louis. btw its not a "myth" Helio Gracie and Joyce both have tapped out signifigantly larger opponents. The "sport" and it is one, has just evovled, its not Vale Tudo style anymore, it has been modified to make it a more exciting "sport".

I think Vale Tudo is the MMA sport you speak of, just the Brazilian term for that kind of "NHB" combat sport, only the rules vary (they vary in American MMA as well obviously).

And yea, why the hell didn't Royce pull gaurd back? He would have been in far less trouble if he could have gotten his gaurd back and worked his submissions, but he chose to do stragne nonsensical things.... once again I love the guy, but I don't think he performed all that well, and even if he was at his best, him and Hughes is still a good match, with me leaning for Hughes (who I respect, but don't really like as far as his style).... damn.

Its not funny, it was pretty sad/shocking to watch that beatdown on live tv. Royce didnt perform too well, he made a mistake while standing up...that Fairtex training led to his demise. That stupid right hand he threw allowed Matt to get his back pretty much.

No, there was always Rickson. Royce was the Gracies' underdog that they threw into fights to show ppl that a smaller, weaker guy could win. If they put Rickson in, GJJ would have just looked like wrestling.
But for some reason, Rickson wasnt there last night. He's the only Gracie that was ever well rounded. If he fought a Kickboxer, he would standup(until it went to a clinch) and beat him up. If he fought a wrestler, Rickson would get the takedown. But now BJJ looks bad cuz of Royce.......aside from the fact that there was a lot of technical submissions last night.
