MATT HUGHES VS. BJ PENN
Christmas came a few months early this year for BJ Penn. Instead of fighting a few more fights for the right to fight for the welterweight title, Penn is the replacement for an unfortunate Georges St. Pierre, who just defeated the Hawaiian in March by a controversial split decision. BJ jumped at the opportunity and the only person that might be happier with this fight is Matt Hughes.

Hughes really needs no introduction as he has been dominant in this weight class. He tapped Georges St. Pierre and made Royce Gracie look old. As Big John McCarthy would say, “Let’s get it on!”

WINNER: Penn. Nothing against Hughes but when BJ Penn has the attitude that he has now, it will be hard to see him lose. I can’t see Hughes getting him in a bad position on the ground forcing a ground-and-pound stoppage or knocking him out. I think Penn could handle Hughes’ wrestling because remember, Penn has been training with Olympic Silver Medalist Matt “the Law” Lindland. I pick Penn by tap out to triangle choke in the third or fourth round.

WHATS NEXT:
BJ Penn vs. TUF 4 Winner or Diego Sanchez. If St. Pierre isn’t 100 percent, the UFC has a few options. Matt Hughes vs. Karo Parisyan should have happened a long time ago and it would be a good come back fight for Hughes if he decides to stay at welterweight

Lindland is a better and bigger and stronger wrestler, by far, than Hughes, so being the world BJJ champ and training with a guy way better than Hughes on the ground (wrestling wise), doesn in fact mean Hughes is in big trouble ( as if he wasnt already, we saw what happened last time) O W N E D

ok, the ufc changed rules some years ago because Royce was beating everyone. They got rid of heel kick from the bottom to the kidneys, took away gi's, and these things tipped the rules in favor of huhghes when he beat Royce. If Royce was wearing a gi, Hughes would of been out, or if royce pulled guard and then heel kicked hughes in the kidneys, Hughes would of had no choice but to use one hand toi try to block/stop the kicks and left himself open for triangles. BJ should beat hughes because he is a better grappler, can hit just as hard, and is looking to prove something again. Just my opinion, but Hughes could not survive in old pride or ufc tourney rules fighting 6 guys in a night.
