BJ had Hughes beat in every regard in the first two rounds...striking and grappling. Even Hughes famous takedowns did not work on Penn. And how amazing is BJ's flexibility??? That gogoplata was just something else!

Penn was OBVIOUSLY the far better and more skilled fighter. There is no dispute of that on any level, none. Hughes got completely dominated standing and on the ground, just as predicted. If he had more time to train and get his endurance, Hughes would have been done, its too bad he didnt get more than 6 weeks to get his wind. Penn is a better fighter in all aspects. Hughes was way lucky Penn didnt train the normal 3 months for the fight. End of story

As far as him "Having more time to train"...I totally disagree...BJ trained the
way he did for a reason: because he thought he was overtraining in
previous fights and he's just lazy.

I thought BJ would get a WAKEUP call after the GSP fight to train his
ass off...Obviously he didnt...He can potentially be the best if
he can just focus on his endurance/conditioning...No doubt..He
proved it tonight in rounds 1 and 2... (and 3 unfortunately).

Nah, I actually couldn't decide who I wanted to win this fight, and was a really close call for me to decide who I thought would win... I thought BJ would, but that was really just based off him winning last time.
I think they're both great compeditors, Hughes was the better man this time, but **** I want to see a rematch. (best 2 out of 3 )

I agree too. I saw that fight. Penn made Hughes his bitch in every aspect of the fight in the first 2 rounds. Penn killed him in the stand up, out-wrestled him, and had much better BJJ. Hughes won by better cardio.

I agree too. Penn took the fight on short notice and only trained 4 weeks. GSP said, "I am very unimpressed with your performance tonight", to Matt. If you guys saw the fight, Hughes was getting DOMINATED, but survived the storm and won. Good job, Hughes. The problem is, GSP is ready to go 5 rounds...

BTW, i was totally Pro-Hughes before this event. But by BJ Penn's entrance into the ring, i was a full fledged fan.

If Penn wants to be a UFC fighter he needs to train to be a UFC fighter. These arn't no time limit rolling sessions. They have a finite time to work with rest time in between. He should also have been enough of a pro that 5 weeks should have been more than enough time to train to be in shape. He chose not to train and he paid for it. He came out with focus but that only carries you so far. He has the talent to be the best but as with most talented people only the special ones rise to be truly great. Does BJ have what it takes to be truley great? I hope so because he is fun to watch.

As far as round 1... I must have seen a different fight than you. Penn won it, for sure, but no spanking or dominance, in fact, I would say Hughes was the one who pushed the pace, remember, it was Hughes striking while pressing onward(though his striking was less effective than Penn's, he was still utilizing his jab effectively) and it was also Penn stuffing Hughes takedowns, not Hughes on the defensive. And DAMN I've never seen a guy sprawl a single leg while in a split... that was pretty amazing.

Round 2, Hughes got the takedown, was on top(though he did little damage) and wore his opponent out... seems like a VERY VERY unskilled fighter... right? Then Penn reversed position and eventually went for the armbar. Didn't get it, just like Matt didn't pound him out from on top. No fluke there. (though Penn was gassing). So where do you see some domination there...

Round 3, Obviously Hughes dominated due to Penn's gassing(which was not his fault, he had limited time to prepare).

So, where do you get off knocking Hughes so much, if Penn were so much better, it wouldn't matter what shape Hughes was in, he would just lose... again... check your logic. I wasn't impressed with Hughes performance, but it wasn't embarasing either. And maybe George can show us how much he has improved since a lesser victory over Penn last time and the obvious loss to Hughes.
