GI chokes, leg locks, etc, that he might not know anything about and therefore just be a good grappler

That is true... He may not be good with a gi though...

I just watched Penn vs GSP replay, and nice gift deciscion for GSP, he got pounded and was a bloody mess, so they gave it to GSP for his 2 takedowns where he didnt control Penn afterward or do anything?? ridiculous.

Yeah but on same note, Penn didn't do much after round 1. GSP was the aggressor and the only point scoring that happened in round 2 and 3 were GSP's take down....

I was very suprised to see Penn work so little from the guard when he was taken down, only in Round 3 did he go for anything (was he going for the Go-Go-Plata or the Choke?). To me Penn showed he could have won the fight, it just seemed like he didn't want to put forth the effort, he wasn't gassed, he looked like he had plenty of energy, he just didn't push the action. Because of that I scored the fight for GSP. (bear in mind I rooted for Penn).

            ...

First round knockout for Hughes... probably before 4 minutes. Maybe he G&P's him, but I'm not sure. He could possibly submit him(only after softening him with blows of course). I think Hughes has vastly improved with his striking from the time of the first fight. In the first fight, Matt didn't want to strike with Penn if he could avoid it, now he's skilled enough to look for the knockout.

Hughes is just too good of a wrestler, and now that hes added some decent bjj to his fighting ability, hes more than a beast on the ground. Look at the Royce fight, wrestling bjj hybrids work great. Mount=bjj, riding legs=wrestling and bjj, side control=wrestling and bjj... every position they ended up on in the ground he's familiar with through wrestling and solidified with bjj. Penn is in for one hell of a beating.

I'm not sure where everyone gets this idea that Penn is better on the ground... Hughes didn't train hard for the fight, was a begginer in Bjj, and certainly paid for it. I watch the fight and understand with know question that Hughes was SOUNDLY beat. Now his training ethic has changed, his bjj is far superior to what it was back then, and it's going to show. I highly doubt Penn will be getting any dominance in position against Hughes. I can't think of an area in which Hughes can lose to Penn, unless a fresh Penn gets an early submission, other than that, he's done.

Funny thing is, this is exactly what everyone thought before the first fight, and Penn spanked him. You are half right, what it all depends on, in my opinion, is what PEnn shows up,the lazy one or the motivated one. The motivated one kills hughes, the lazy one gets KOd or GNPd

Ahhh... here is where we get back to our normal ways... in which we can't seem to find anyway to agree lol. No one thought that really... His work ethic was not only very strong prior to the fight, but his sub skills were completly sub-par. So... no, I am not half right, I am totally right, AT LEAST on that issue.

If Penn shows up lazy... he's dead. Anyone can get lucky... but he'd have to get REAL LUCKY. If he shows up motivated, fully trained, and in high spirits, he will most likely make it past the 3rd minute of the first round. Probably not much further, though I have to say BJ is a tough mofo, so maybe into latter rounds, though with little success.

I'm curious to see who's right here. I am 1-0 against you though, as you may remember. I predicted Matt Hughes might sub, Royce, or would at least come close. I also said if he didn't get the sub it would be G&P. Also that he would maul him as far as position on the ground being the stronger of the two, and a far better wrestler. I'm curious to see WHY you would think Penn has much of a chance, if one at all.
