  • 4-5 weeks should be enough time to get into fighting trim. I also read on another post he was fighting in October anyway (don't know if this is true or not)Remeber, Penn usually fights at a lower wieght. If the opposite were true this would be a more valid argument. A professional fighter trains ALL of the time, so they should be in some semblence of fitness. He should have been putting a majority of his training into cardio as he has the bjj skill in hand already. I don't have a dog in this fight, I just want the person that deserves to win to win, and in this case that happened.

Ok first off... you didn't show the update lol.

And no, you didn't own anything, except your usual illogical statements. (being bigger and stronger have nothing to do with it). BUT, that being said, Lindland IS a better wreslter, and significantly so... BUT that in no way means that Penn is going to be better than Hughes. I'm not sure what thought process would allow you to conclude this. He's was TRAINING with Lindland. I was impressed with Penns' takedown defense, but I would attribute it just as much to flexibility as working with a wrestler the caliber of lindland.

I read your other post and when you put things into perspective like that, youre right, Penn didnt DOMINATE. He did neutralize Hughes though. Matt couldnt take him down in the first round and BJ was landing clean shots to his face. I didnt expect that. Second round, he still landed good shots, got taken down eventually and took Hughes' back from there and went for the triangle/armbar. I didnt expect that either from Penn, it was amazing to watch. But towards to end of the round, Hughes DID escape or was cleary going to, and was NOT saved by the bell. Then, round 3 Penn looked like shit and was slowly finished.

        • yea, i have to agree with others here. BJ has more skill than MH, but MH was able to capitalize on BJ being very winded. Not to take away from MH, it still takes a lot of skill to do what he did to BJ, even if he was winded. But if BJ would just train harder, he would be a lot better. I hate to see his talent go to waste.

I am from the big island and my friend trains with him and cabbage. And he said after BJ took the fight, he started training. But one day on, one day off. Yea, I will admit he is lazy. But he has so much talent and is a great fighter. He also eats whatever he wants, plate lunch, mac salad (if you're from hawaii you will know what i'm talking about). But oh well, next time. Either he needs to finish his fights faster, or get in shape.

          • BJ may have been the better fighter, but Hughes deserved the win.

He did neutralize Hughes, and did a very good job of it. Actually, you couldn't have used a better word to describe what he did.

Matt also landed shots, jabs, but more the feeler jab, not the stiff set up jab.

Hughes almost escaped right away, if you saw how far his hips were out of when BJ threw legs in, he looked pretty close to getting out... BJ is just too good with that position. But yea, he would did escape with a couple seconds left.

              • Matt Hughes is an animal. BJ needs to train harder. Good fight. I liked the eye gouge. :P

                • I don't think many people paid attention to what Hughes implied at the end of the fight. Hughes doesn't lie or make excuses for any losses, he sucks it up and takes repsonibility for it. He even said losing to BJ was a good thing for him. Hughes in this fight wanted 5 rounds, and I think he wanted to take it to the ground and beat BJ to erase any doubt. If they had done stand-up all out for the first two rounds, rather than Hughes looking for the take down, I think the first two would have looked very different. Hughes even said he knew he lost the first two. He went to the ground in the last round against his coaches yelling and scream, and against what happened the previous round, because he wanted to prove his ground game against a great BJJ fighter. I think a third match would show a Hughes focusing on standup and gassing BJ (regardless of broken ribs I think he would have gassed after the 3rd anyway).

                  • also, the choke penn had didn't look all that tight and I agree with Matt's comment that the arm bar looked much more dangerous. I think if Matt could have escaped the bar, he could have dropped Penn.

                      • **** Oma - you're the only one here refusing to compromise at all. Hughes supporters are admitting that Penn is talented, and Penn supporters are saying that Hughes is a good fighter. You're the only one still trying to completely and utterly suck Penn's cock. While internet falatio might be your thing, just start a fuckin blog and whine about Hughes there. Penn and Hughes respect each other, so if you respect Penn, you should respect his respect of Hughes.

                        • Thats all he ever does, is suck off of jiu jitsu related subjects. Oma, you should try peanut butter, it removes gum from hair. Maybe it will remove you from BJ Penn's nuts...

I just thought it was funny that something as small as an accidental thumb in the eye could have such a disastrous effect on a badass like Matt Hughes. Just sayin'.

They are both awesome. It was a good fight.
