Judo definitely has some of the more visually impressive takedowns but whether or not they can pull off the same leverage and power of the takedown without the gi will make or break them I suppose.

well i think it's safe to say that judo is past the "make or break" stage of its existenceOriginally posted by Bjjexpertise@be View PostJudo definitely has some of the more visually impressive takedowns but whether or not they can pull off the same leverage and power of the takedown without the gi will make or break them I suppose.
but i take your meaning. but the great majority of judo techniques can be effectively modified.

That is not a dump. A dump is hit off a failed firemans. That's some sorta duck under, but I think the guy was so off balanced he got thrown. Under normal circumstances that wouldn't throw a guy.Originally posted by 7r14ngL3Ch0k3 View PostIve heard it called a "dump". Thiago Silva actually hit a really nice one against Jason Black at the last UFC Fight Night.

Basically how it works is that their weight is on your shoulder and back, when you sit out like that it shifts their weight off your body and drops them to the ground for a brief second so you guys can either reverse positions (he is now the one being sprawled on) or attempt to take his back.Originally posted by J-Luck View PostThat is not a dump. From the who would win man versus woman thread.....
10 points if anyone can tell me why Mongolian wrestlers wear only sleeves?
why the lack of jackets?

according to my favorite site, the all-knowing wikipedia, it's due to a legend that once, after a competitor defeated all challengers in a tournament, she ripped open her jacket exposing her breasts and revealing that she was a woman. apparently no one else thought this was quite as funny as she did, and to prevent it happening again the uniforms in the future had to expose the chest.Originally posted by GonzoStyles View PostFrom the who would win man versus woman thread.....

The great majority of Judo techniques that can be modified, are usually already covered in wrestling.Originally posted by The_Judo_Jibboo View Postwell i think it's safe to say that judo is past the "make or break" stage of its existence

No need to explain, I'm a wrestler who understands how it works.Originally posted by Bjjexpertise@be View PostBasically how it works is that their weight is on your shoulder and back, when you sit out like that it shifts their weight off your body and drops them to the ground for a brief second so you guys can either reverse positions (he is now the one being sprawled on) or attempt to take his back.
My point is that a good wrestler wouldn't usually be thrown by that technique. It does, however off balance and offer positional advantage.

i'll have to take your word on that, since i've never wrestled myself. it sounds like you've done judo though?Originally posted by J-Luck View PostThe great majority of Judo techniques that can be modified, are usually already covered in wrestling.
just to be clear what we're talking about though, yes, i would not be surprised if wrestlers had come up with variations very similar to most of the judo throws that could be performed on someone wearing a wrestling outfit. but in regular clothing almost none of the judo techniques would require modification of any kind.
when you're condensing it down to what can be done on a bare-chested opponent or opponent wearing the wrestling uniform it's easy to say that wrestling contains all the techniques that could possibly be modified. but add back in the "handles" that ordinary clothing provides and i would imagine that judo provides a few options that wrestling doesn't, simply by the nature of how they are practiced.

judo/jiu jitsu is best. judo/jiu jitsu also has a bit more variety in its techniques and strategies, and has many effective finishing techniques.
learning to use peoples clothing against them is quite useful. it can actually be downright lethal. learning how to strangle people with their own shirts may come in handy one day, you never know. plus, you can do all kindsa crazy things with clothing if you know how to manipulate it to your advantage. you can strait up lock and trap peoples arms with their own shirts, something i like to do all the time when i roll.
