  • Working out with the ladies.-No it's dirty.

Hello everyone. I am new to the world of MMA and I have seen how it can be quite straight forward, I like it a great deal. The one problem that I have had was when I had to ground fight one of the ladies in my class and I am not at all saying that women can not hold their own on the mat, its just that I felt bad sparring a woman that was half my size and strength. I guess it is just that born-in, hardwired aspect of every man that says "You should not hit girls/women".

Does any other guy have the issue? If so, what have you done to deal with it? I know I am probably sounding like a wimp, but like I said... I felt bad.

Judging from the rest of the post, I'm going to guess that you meant to say "You should not hit girls/women."

Therez no reason too feel bad. She iz in the class too learn, and if you take it eazy on her because shez not a man, shez not going to get all she should be getting from the training, think of it that way.

If I was better than her, let her know it without causing pain, so she has to try harder. If shes better than me, then by all means. Go harder. But yeah I have that problem too, and I dont give a damn who says what, I dont like hitting girls and I am not about to start, even in training. Unless the girl in question directly asks me, even then I am reluctant.

lolol wonder what a psychiatrist would make of that title hmmm

but seriously just see it as she needs/wants to learn how to fight against men and you are helping her in doing that. if she didnt want to fight guys she wouldnt be there.

                  lol

I actually read this thread because of the title - I wanted to see what was so dirty.

Turns out, I'm the dirty one for thinking it ...

At any rate, if the girl is in the class to learn then I say teach her. If she ends up teaching you then you both win. :-)

if you have enough self control, then you should be able to push your training partners hard without hurting them when you roll with someone who is nowhere near your level, be it man or woman. when i roll with females or guys who are less skilled, i give up positions and let them put me in danger so i can work on defense while they try to figure out how to attack more effectively. i also try to keep a constant flow of action. that means ill put them in submissions, but then let them escape it and move on to the next position so there is no stop in the action. there are plenty of people who are going show no mercy and try grapple with you like their life depends on it, so take advantage of people who are less skilled as you, they make great training tools its ok because they will be learning as well. you will both learn way more if you let them try stuff on you instead of just pinning them to floor immediately and making them tap over and over.

I understand where you are coming from, Richard.

If you're sparring a gal half your size go easy on her to help her build her confidence. If she's half your size and is say a 3rd degree black belt, you could safely up the intensity and worry less.

She didn't leave home to go to a knitting class and accidentally wind up in an MMA class instead.

She's there to train. Do her the courtesy of being a useful training partner!

I can never get used to it. I know, it's wrong, she's there to train hard, blah blah blah. No matter what anybody says, I'll never want to wrestle with a female. I definitely would never want to spar (as in striking) with a female either. Yes, I'm the object of the female student's frustration. I'm (one of) the guy(s) who doesn't want you there. I'm sorry. I'm just being honest. Most of the females I"ve met in BJJ classes have been dike-ish and seem like they want to be "like a guy." That's just my scientific and totally objective take on it. Again, sorry.

I agree with you there. My oppinion is pretty much the same. But if a girl wants to learn martial arts, I am also happy about it, just me personnally I aint gonna hurt them, unless I know them very well and I know there limits and they have specifically asked me too. Guys should spar with guys and girls should spar with girls. Girls shoud be girls and guys should be guys. I dont like when one sex tries so hard to be of the opposite gender.
