    Lac:

I think you're misconstruing what we said.

I didn't say that people should study Wrestling and not BJJ. I'm saying that BJJ'ers should incorporate more Wrestling into their arsenal. Right now, Vitor is one of the few who are doing this effectively.

I'm also saying BJJ'ers like Renzo and Goes shouldn't shoot on superior wrestlers. The best gameplan I can think of is to leg-kick them. Many wrestlers don't block kicks well...instead they shoot in and take the kicker down. Then the BJJ'er could put the wrestler in guard and work from there.

It's better than eating leather,...or whatever it was that KO'd Renzo. Shooting right in is suicide.

Wrestling did OK this time, however it could easily change the next time. One time GJJ/BJJ does great, one time its the Lions Den, one time its wrestlers. It all comes around for everyone & has since NHB started.

With the grade of competition coming up,I am sure we will see alot of this.
People that we thought were invincable get old .Younger ,stronger guys pop up.Even the techniques are improved upon .
        Everything progresses,and everyone gets old.
Something we tend to try and push to the back of our minds is the fact that there will always be someone better. It's just a matter of time.

Way to put things in perspective Dan. Even Muhammed Ali ended up losing to Ed Norton and Leon Spinks.

Shimora: How can you say "Now that everyone knows the BJJers game they have no secret weapon. and then say "BJJ is a great sport but it is hardly relative to a real fight which allows striking. " in the same post? That doesn't make any sense. You are totaly contradicting yourself. YOu say that BJJ isn't realtive to MMA fighting, but everybody trains in it. If Coleman and Henderson hadn't trained in BJJ they wouldn't have won. They would have no idea how to defend the submission attempts. That's how Couture beat Randleman, with BJJ. He used his guard to defend himself and wear his opponant out so that he could finish him. As far as Renzo loosing 3 in a row. Rings is not MMA, a 10 minute fight with no striking on the ground and stand-ups every 20 seconds is hardly a real fight. Colaman had 3 looses in a row and where is he now? At the top of the heavyweight division. I agree that Renzo would be more effective in his own weight class, as would every other fighter. If Tito was fighting other 220 lb fighters he wouldn't be as dominant as he has been. In todays game everyone has improved thier game to the dame level as every other top guy, not in every catagory, but as a whole. One guy may be a better striker, but the other guy has better takedowns and submissions, another guy has better stamina etc... But as a whole they are the same level fighters. So you add 20-30 pounds to one guy, and now he has an advantage over the other. I'd like to see a couple more weight classes added and a strictor adhearence to the weight limits. I think it would improve the quality of the fights.

              OK ..kinda off topic...

wouldn't it be great if a TKD or Karate guy came out and started kicking everyones ass in NHB purely using knife hand strikes and side kicks etc?

              Daniel Larusso...where are you???

Why wasn't there ever a "Jiu Jitsu Kid" or "Wrestling Kid" movie??

                Jiu-jitsu kid

Royce was the "jiu-jitsu" kid. He was tall and skinny just like Daniel-son, no one gave him a chance when they first saw him, and Rorion made him wax his cars for lessons.

I'd just pull his hair and bite him.

Hey about the "wrestling kid" movies...
                    Anyone ever see "Vision Quest"?

                      Vision quest

Vision Quest could have been good, But I hated the guy they picked for the main role. Didn't he go on to do "Gross Anatomy"?

                          Funny Story

The names in this story have been left out to protect the innocent. LOL.

Okay, I was talking to a guy (let's call him Ned) who told me a story about the last time he went out to a prominent BJJ school in California. During an "advanced" class the instructor showed a counter commonly found in high school wrestling. The BJJ students "oooh"ed and "aaahhhh"ed. Ned pulled the instructor to the side and told him that the technique that he just showed was a beginners level wrestling technique. The instructor just smiled and said, "Yeah, but they don't know that; they think it's zhuzhitsuz! (jui-jitsu pronounced with a Brazilian accent).

This just illustrates the point that everyone can stand to learn something from somebody.

                              I'm sorry, I'm sorry

You're right. I should be ashamed. I can't believe I consider myself a martial artist. I'm going to put my gi on and go out back to practice punching from the hip in a horse stance. What was I thinking, trying to have an open mind? :]

                                That's better.

Don't forget to practice crane technique. Remember:

                                If do right...no can defend.
