This is in no way a complete coverage of what to do. Just some ideas to bounce around.

As we have all agreed by the time you're that close it's too late.

And avoidance and preemption as Michael pointed out are best.

These are just a general idea of some things that can be used or expounded upon.

I suck at explaining stuff to a camera, it's much easier in person.

I am in no means a master, I've been studying MA's for a while and RBSD for about 10 years now.

Good video, thanks for posting. At about the 3:03 mark, that kinda resembles a move from Taichi that I vaguely remember my dad showing me when I was a kid. I'm not sure what it's called in english but a rough translation from chinese would mean "wild horses split the middle." The mechanics are relatively the same, hand grabs opposite side wrist, shoulder into armpit, and lift/blast them up and out after stepping behind their legs.

I think it's awesome that you posted a video with your opinion and methods on technique. If anything I think that we should make this kind of thing more often, someone would post a situation and all the members could post a video or something on how they would react. Awesome work again!

On a side note, I think my natural reaction to the hands on chest would be to step back to get into stance while bringing my hands up then decking him in the head with a hard cross. If both hands are stretched out there's nothing he can do to block effectively.

Absolutely. That is correct. There are so many variations you can get depending on what happens in a fight.

Actually if you have his hands pinned like that and he drops his ass straight down like he's flopping on his butt, while your punching, you go for a hard ride to the top of your head.

Maybe we can see what the other members want to see? Otherwise you can wing it .

As for the flopping on my head, I meant instead of grabbing his hands you can just take a step back and that'll negate the hands on chest. Then while his hands are outstretched throw a pot shot to the face.

Maybe next week I'll start a thread and just add to it every week.

Sorry didn't realize what you meant. While that would work, it would put you in a less advantageous position should he be able to stop short. Also remember if you can touch him he can touch you. It may be possible for him to counter your punch and land a kick.

Also one of the main rules of CMA's at least is to always move in. it helps with smothering your opponents attack and gaining control.

That's a great idea. The forums have been dead as of late and I'm guessing it's due to lack of topics. A "what would you do" weekly thread would be pretty kickass.

Nothing helps you learn better than explaining it to others.

He didn't sleep in a Holiday Inn.

KOTF, if the grabber disengages after the attempt somehow after you've already started to turn, looks like you could turn it into a spinning elbow or spinning chop.

That's a possibility. However there are no certainties in any altercation. Also having a tight lock on the person and making the movement quick and fluid will have them off balance if properly applied.

There are more aggressive defenses but I chose to omit those. You never know who is reading and what kind of mental hang ups they have.

                              well done, sir!

Simple, and totally effective and you did it without swearing!

I have seen a similar technique employed by Peyton Quinn.
                              Thank you Sir.

Peyton's stuff has a certain aikido influence.
