Ismael choked out Royce and Sperry choked out Royler. So, what are you talking about?

Well I think we're talking about NHB and guarding against strikes, not sport JJ. Totaly different game. Sperry had 80lbs on Royler, and with a gi that makes a huge differnce, so once you get down a couple of points you have to take chances to try to get back in the fight. WIth only 10mns to work thats asking a lot of a guy. Royce got beat plane and simple, but again that's sport JJ not NHB.

The question was with regard to MMA, not sport. I was talking about not getting their ass ko'd by strikes (or tko'd) which has happened to Bitteti, Sperry, and Ismail, but not to the Gracies. So, you made the point that the Gracies have lost a few sport matches to these guys, yeah you're right. I'm trying to figure out what the Gracies have in their MMA gameplan which allows them not to suffer from strikes like the other bjj elites do.

Gracie lost to Sakuraba due to strikes. Why is it so hard to grasp that. Royce quit in his corner exactly like how boxers quit in their corners during matches. In boxing when you refuse to come out of your corner then your opposition ads a KO to his recor

Royce was never in any trouble against Sakuraba until he broke his foot, he was definately winning. Sakuraba got lucky.

Sak was lucky...stupid kicking a downed guy...
With all the rules...why is THAT allowed?

They had been fighting for 90 minutes they were both in trouble. If it kept going though (and Royce hadn't broken anything) I bet he would've won.

well they represent the effectiveness of grappling versus striking...they are true grapplers they dont approach fightimg with a if my punches fail then ill grapple mentality they work their plan ...if they fail in the training room against strikes they ask what is the grappling answer to this not well i need to learn how to strike better...they are master deceivers making u think u got something when u dont and and making you think you got nothing when you do ..they are simply smarter than their opponent..they prepare extremely well...well coached and smart always wins...

They don't always win, they just do not ever get finished by strikes, which is amazing to me because all the other top bjj fighters (besides Barretto) do. Give Barretto a hand for being a great bjj NHB guy too guys!

First off I would like to say Royce Gracie is an excellent defensive fighter. He has trained himself to elude strikes and close in for the take down. But lets not fool ourselves. Anyone I mean anyone can get caught with a strike and have the fight end instantly. When Royce walked in against Ken's right cross it imeadiately blow up his eye. Now if that same punch was thrown by Igor V. Royce would have been asleep in dreamland.

Bitetti was finished by Frye, an accomplished boxer and wrestler, have any of the Gracies fought an accomplished boxer and wrestler? Thats what I thought. You can't compare some know nothing kickboxer to Don Frye or Igor Zenoviev.

Sakuraba beat the tar out of Royce's foot........sooooooo......In a fight between Sakuraba and Rickson's foot.......who would win? Rickson has a tough foot. He surfs you know. And rarely wears shoes.

Patterson, you hit it right on the button.

Take a good hard look at the opponents Royce fought for an
example. Hackney slapped a sloppy broken hand to andre the giant(or whatever his name is), Kimo flayeled his way to exaustion, Remco frightened himself into submission, Royce could have sneazed on Van Clef and he would have fallen over, not to mention the one gloved wonder(ya,wondered how he landed on the ground so fast),not to mention the-"I know one choke hold for submission, past his prime Severn(lucky for Royce it wasn't Hazel or he would have been wrapped up like a pretzle like his brother Rickup),etc, etc, etc.

If Royce ever met up with a Randleman, Igor V.,Kerr, etc.,
he would be a permanent resident at Torrance, California Hospital.
