My self defense strategy? No. I was just giving an example of where Judo or BJJ or any grappling could have given an advantage.

JJ Machado's hand is deformed and yet he is one of the best grapplers on the planet. I think that's pretty cool
Although its clear BJJ has the advantage over Judo in an art on art vacuum. If I had to chose only one for fighting, I would pick Judo. IMO, it's more were rounded and the ground skills gained from it, while maybe simple from BJJ perspective, are miles above your average street fighters.
Despite what non-Judo folks will have you believe there are several Judo throws that work really well in street situations. And because of the randori in class, they become natural from a clinch.
Wild punch, wild punch, clinch, osoto gari to mount, if they are still awake, pound face, and choke or high percentage sub. Not to tap, to break and disengage or transition to another attack.
I think Judo's training methodology, while clearly not the best for street prep, does a better job of preparing you than BJJ.

What throws do you find to work the best on the street?

It doesn't take a genious to figure out how to modify the moves to work without a gi. And it's not like they only do throws. There's also takedowns and sweeps.
I haven't been doing Judo for very long but I've already modified a couple moves to work without a gi. Hiza guruma works pretty well from a wrestlers tie up.

Bri Cry, I'm not going to fall out with the instructor because I'm not trying to help the instructor do anything. I helped my old instructor do a lot but I won't make that mistake again.
You would't be saying the things you're saying if nobody else thought Judo was any good. It seems like nobody is allowed to say a good word about Judo on a BJJ forum.
And it's mostly BJJ guys complaining that Judoka throw off on BJJ but it's the other way around. Bri Cry sounds like some of the guys from old BJJ class, never a good word about anything but BJJ.
You and GRACIEAUSTIN seemed awfully defensive but I don't remember insulting the people the do BJJ or saying anything really bad about it.. maybe I'll have to read over the posts again.
BJJ works just the way it's supposed to work. On the ground. And Judo works standing up and has great throws. I don't remember making claims that Judo had better grappling than BJJ, coz everyone already knows that's not true. And BJJ sucks from standing.
Before I left my old BJJ class, there was an Aikido guy that stopped by and worked out with the class. He was a friend of the instructor. I believe he had mostly done Aikido but he also had a TKD background (not that it matters). He ended up throwing a 300 pound guy with an extensive wrestling background. How did that happen? Doesn't everyone here think Aikido is worthless and can't ever work under any circumstances? And to throw someone that big? What happened there?
