well i am in the military at the moment, and i find the hand to hand combat training here a bit silly and not as effective as one should expect. so i am tring to find a different way to learn this, and maybe get a licence as an instructor.

Contemporary Fighting Arts is a cutting-edge reality based martial arts system specifically designed for real world self-defense situations.

          Search under:
          Jim Grover/Kelly McCann
          Carl Cestari
          Sammy Franco

If your intrest is everyday self-defense then you should read this. If it is for the job then I would try and find a high ranking person in an agressive and brutal system and try to get them to train you for possible life and death combat situations on the battlefield. Still good luck there.

            Military Style Unarmed Combat
These styles often do not take into account the legal requirements to use "Reasonable Force" in a self-defense situation. However, most of the military style techniques are designed to be used in battlefield situations where the intent is either to incapacitate or kill the opponent.
This may mean that their practitioners may find themselves charged with assault rather than their attackers (see Dean Tobin's article on Self Defense and the Law). Also, by removing the "traditional" elements of martial arts training, students of the military styles may not be getting the physical and mental benefits offered by traditional styles.

check out www.Russianmartialart.com and look under the affiliates.

Systema has some good combat stuff in it, not just self defence or fighting. Im not sure if there is a school near you though.

for example it has techniques for the military shovel. If you go to the seminar that Micheal Rybko hosts in Russia you can train on a spetnaz base, that would have alot of combat related stuff involved with it. It is some usefull stuff if your lucky enough to find a place with a good instructor. (there all good, but im not sure how many have accual recent military experience)

Care to name some of these elusive benefits?

hapkidoist that not always true Systema incoporates philosophy as well as health methods. It also deals (more so then most martial arts) in the mental aspect of fighting.

Well i was going to recommend Systema after reading about them, but after seeing some of the video clips of their knife work....hmmmm.....kicking a knife from someone's hand??? aha.....

Systema for fitness, health and self defence

What was the deal with those Systema clips? Were they supposed to make people want to train it? All I saw was a fat guy arm punching someone one third his size and a bunch of super slow motion stuff. Not impressed in the least. That knife stuff would get anyone killed to boot. I loved the part when the guy got hit in the temple with the trainer (knife) while his partner was moving at 1/20 normal speed. If it were me failing in "Matrix bullet time," I would start to be convinced that I might want to look somewhere else.

lol such misguided people *sigh* oh well.

come to any seminar with Vlad or the "fat guy" and you'll find out.
Or come up to Toronto and join in the practice

lol accually i would like to see that

The clips (i would assume) are not ment to make people want to train, Vlad doesn't care if you train or not. If your willing to learn he will be very happy to teach you, if not, well thats ok to, your lose.

If you ever do go to a seminar (or practice) dont be afraid to confront Vlad and tell him how you feel, he'll just smile, allow you to attack him, and he'll show you. He wont try and kick your ass or "teach you a lesson" accualy i think you would have alot of fun.
