Would Bruce Lee win UFC fights had he been still alive and willing to compete?

Wasn't there enough MA competition going on back in the 60s and 70s for Bruce to make his name with? He certainly never bothered....... What makes you think he would have done so if he was at a fighting age today?

He was a great martial artists who brought the MAs to the attention of the western world........ But what did he really do to prove his own fighting prowess?

Yes And No. Bruce Would Have Been A Little Uncomfortable Being Limited By "fair Tactics". However I Am Sure That Hw Would Have Compensated Nicely.

So youre saying that Bruce would have to rely on eye and groin strikes and other foul tactics to win a fight in most circumstances? Im sure if he was in the Early UFC he would have been a top competitor or even 2nd or 3rd best, but he would never be able to defeat Royce. Bruce would have had to be a phenomenal striker if he didnt focus on grappling like royce did. You talk about mixed martial arts fighting as if it has little or no application in self defense or "real" fighting.

What makes me laugh is people still believe that the UFC is actually the ULTIMATE fighting championship... that its the extreme of the extreme. You take someone out of their enviorment and its a whole different ball game, you take away what they are used to, possibly even their strengths. Put Bruce in the Ring you take away his crucial strikes to the groin, eyes etc. take the UFC fighter out of the ring, it takes away thier fighting guideline and puts them in a totally different position.

Its an arguement that will never have an answer.

All things being equal size does matter. Royler got beat by Mario Sperry and I think that it was due to the size difference because technically they're pretty evenly matched. As far as Vale Tudo and Royler's participation in those tournaments is concerned there was never any really huge weight/size difference in any of his matches. Besides I wouldn't consider Royer a good example in this discussion. As a Vale Tudo fighter Royer is average at best. In sport jiu-jitsu he's pretty darn good!

Bruce Lee err'd when he left Wing Chun for other arts of the outside muscle. He lost the path provided for him by his one true Master, William Cheung. Fighting the muscle game is fine for muscle man, but not for man of gristle. And all lose to inner strength of William Cheung.

Genki Sudo would destroy Bruce Lee. That's just one in a line of well rounded fighters who could dismantle Mr. Lee. I can't believe that after all these years the Bruce Lee mystic carries this much weight. He was a 140 lb (or less) little guy who had a 250 lb screen presence. He dabbled in ground fighting but his forte was stand up. Even with his "lightening cat like" reflexes he wouldn't be able to go toe to toe with many second grade fighters out there today.

So wtf?? You're saying that bodyweight and size dictates success? How the F do explain Royler Gracie then, who has had success fighting much bigger, heavier opponents in Vale Tudo tournaments?

Lee was most definately not ok with ruling eye gouges and biting out of one's fighting style. He encouraged absolutely anything that worked, he would have gouged your eyes with his toe nails and bit your testicles if it was going to get him out of a submission.
Someone in here already made the point that whether or not he won in the ring he'd kick the crap out of anyone in an alley and i agree with that 100%

As he stood, Bruce Lee would GET KILLED in the octagon. IF he trained in BJJ or other things if he lived, who knows, but as he was, he wouldnt have stood a chance.

Now are we talking about the UFC in 1993 or the UFC of today ?

Taking Bruce Lee, as he was, would have dominated in the UFC in 1993 as a top player. In the UFC of today, he would only be so-so because of his so-so grappling skills.

However, given Bruce Lee's system of fighting calls for taking what is usefull, he would have devoted as much energy to his grappling game as his striking game, would have taken weight gainer suppliments and bulked up to the 175 lb cateogry where he would be a top player.

Will this debate ever stop?
