You are right, anyone could set up a half assed test...mine are NOT half assed. As I said in a previous post (I think it was this thread, but may be wrong), you are welcome to come to my gym and take a class anytime and see for yourself how our Muay Thai program goes. My doors are always open to anyone. I also said i a previous post that I recently stopped conducting a test for shorts, but for the other reasons stated in earlier posts. I still think it is not wrong to do it. Understand that people's philosophy is different in the states (not making excuses), and as long as the essence of Muay Thai is still intact within the training, then I see nothing wrong with it, in my humble opinion.

And for the record (because I do take offense to this I DO NOT "Mcdojofy" ANYTHING!! That is the last thing I would do, I have seen it done, I WILL NOT do it. Again, you are welcome to come see...the door is open.

yes anyone who wears thai trunks can claim muay thai. Having a "test" does not make it any better, anyone could set up a half assed test and give out shorts and in theory those student's would have "earned" it. Your test does not change that at all. All you are doing is mcdojofying muay thai. In my humble opinion that is.

    Jules,

Sorry for thinking you were the one from Indiana, my mistake. A friend of mine had gone by the name Jules on some forums, I thought this was the same.

Of course testing for shorts is NOT part of Muay Thai or it's culture, but we are in America where pretty much everyone (generally speaking) takes waaaaayyy too much for granted, including Muay Thai. If you had read all the posts I thought you would understand. It is merely a test to "earn" something in the class, for those who are not fighters and for those idiots who can just buy a pair of thai shorts anywhere and claim they are doing Muay Thai, when all it really is, is watered down TKd or kickboxing.

The students can buy their shorts from me and have team shorts or they can get their own online, or from a catalogue. They are not forced to buy from me so I can make a buck. It is not about the money, despite what you think.

I really don't expect anyone on here, who is Thai, to understand or agree...that's ok, to each their own...the discussion on this thread has been pretty good I think, I have learned from it and enjoyed it.

What you do with ten thai nuns?
"tten nuh" is thai for coach/trainer iirc

Jules, the shorts test cost me no money, maybe other schools are different but as far as I know its no cost, just a test.
yea but let me ask you this. Do you have to buy the shorts from your instructor or can you wear any thai shorts from anywhere? Look it's not a thai tradition nor is it connected to muay thai in anyway shape or form.

i am not from indiana nor am I a TBA member. I have never trained with anyone from TBA and don't even know what it is. I have however, done muay thai for 2 years and trained with different thai "ten nuhs". They never said anything about "earning shorts" this is a money grabbing move, it has nothing to do with muay thai or muay thai culture.
