  • need help gonna take on wing chun guy, wat should i do?

mk, i've been doin muay thai for years now, n a guy from my high school wants to vs me, his wing chun vs my muay thai... my teacher told me just target one of his legs, but me n one of my mates at my club were talkin about going straight in to the clinch and show him te meaning of elbows and knees... i bloody own at knees i love them not even my teacher can hold the bag for me when i get into them n he weighs about 25kgs more then me lol..

so wat are ur ideas, just tell me at the moment we will be fighting brute force style a my club (no eye gauging no groin kicks, no biting muay thai at its best no restrictions)

when muay thai beat every kung fu master sent over to thailand they said it wasnt a martial art... they thought that was an insult, muay thai is not a martial art it was created after thousands of years of war it is a way of life and it is the best street fighting technique because it is about fighting to kill not for bloody points they hit u, u take it, u hit them they go down

Chinese Kung Fu is not designed to defend effectively against muay thai leg kicks.

If you're grappling be careful of his elbows, kung fu also has killer elbows.

Your fitness will probably be better than his, and from my experience you will be lighter on your feet so able to use your range more effectively. Also the kung fu guard is different, they generally have one hand protecting their sternum which creates an opening around their head. They also have very quick hands, but from what I've seen, not so much power behind their punches...certainly not like muay thai.

Just watch some win chun videos on youtube but I wouldn't worry about it..chin down and guard up..

I don't have much experience with WC (other than those elements that found their way in to JKDC), but I would use Thai leg kicks to set up an entry, then close the range, clinch and knee. Also I'd try to rely on good strong teeps to keep the fight in kicking range until I was ready to close to clinch range. I'd try not to hang out in punching range, as that's where a WC guy is likely to be most comfortable, unless I were confident that I was a lot faster or more skilled.

It depends on how long this guy has been doing wing chun and how good he is.

i'll need to do one more thing though, i need to figure out how many rounds he wants to do, and how long the breaks are between rounds, boxing which is a minute or muay thai which is two minutes lol

Ah to be young again! That's right about when I had my first muay thai match. Has this fight been cleared with the requisite authorities and your trainer and the owner of the gym...or is this some off-site deal?

Is it standup only, or is grappling ok?

Regardless...I would suggest you study up a little bit on what exactly Wing Chun is before you have your fight. This will help you form strategies for your fight. Essentially, Wing Chun is a trapping art based on maintaining centerline, with a few low line kicks...and chain punching. Basically...the only way he can beat you, unless he really knows what he's doing and has exceptional timing, will be if he blitzes into you with punches, a'la Belfort v. Silva.

If I were you, I would watch out while getting into the clinch range, but if you are taller...keep the WC guy at a distance with kicks...If you are shorter...
here's a good thing to practice.
Left low round kick, right cross, teep...break off, fake a low right skip round kick and then fire off a left hook, clinch, and then knee straight to the face.

If grappling is allowed...the fight will go to whichever one of you crosstrains to have a ground game.

Don't fight to fight. Fight to learn. Go away friends at the end of the day.
