I am going to train with Master Toddy next month

I'm really excited about this. I am headed out to Vegas for a week to attend the UFC Fan Expo and then train at Master Toddy's Muay Thai Academy for 3 days.

I will be posting all about my trip on my blog at Dan's Muay Thai MMA.com Traveling The World Training Martial Arts.

I am sure I'll have lots of photos up, as well as blog posts.

Dont expect to much for Flaves! One of my students just come back from Vegas,he trained at M Toddys,nice gym,nice people,but he wasnt impressed by the training content!.

really interesting, toddy is my lineage, you know who my instructor is and he was taught by toddy, so im surprised the standard was low, any more info on what it was like, has it all just gone commercial or something?

Ghost my student went over 2 weeks ago,when he walked in he said the gym was awesome,really smart and clean well equiped etc,Toddy was nice as was the other Thai instructor he got,it cost him £30 pound for a day in the gym which included a small group class,he trained with some guys who had their first fight coming up,he wasnt impressed with the content,he said the basics of stance,balance,blocking etc werent there and they just worked combos on the pads.

Its only one persons view of one session of course so Flaves report should give more insight eh.

I trained with Toddy back in 1981/2 just on some weekend seminars at Blackpool and at that time really enjoyed it.

I'm also surprised to hear that. My lineage is also Toddy and it has always been the basics that have been strong in this lineage, certainly from my teachers anyway. Combos on the pads has never been a big part of the Toddy material I have learned, its been far more about working with a partner and going through the basics. Pad combos is something I relate far more with Chai. Ah well, all interesting stuff.

A good friend and training partner of mine just came back from Las Vegas and he trained privately with Toddy - he said it was excellent. Like you say Fire Cobra, its just different people's experiences.

Well Ive got to say that I was suprised(and disapointed) because I reccomended M Toddys to my student.

Maybe just one of those days when he hit on a poor class.

Yeah Tick that thread is fitting,Ive heard most of it before,there are some clued up people in that discussion.

That certainly was an interesting conversation on sherdog, there was also another very long one I think on mymuaythai about teachers in the US and europe using the term kru or who was authentic. I think once a person establishes an "indentity" and then reinforces it lets say by producing instructors of note or certainly fighters of some sort, it really spins things around because they create this whole reality around them that makes everything they do seem authentic to the gulliable public. Those in the know at that point will remain in the minority unfortunately. Also makes it hard because many are actually thai which seems in the public eye to give them an automatic headstart.

I look forward to hearing Flaves honest report to see what he experiences there. I dont know anyone personally who trained there so it will be nice to read.
