actually i'm quite good at them, But i have taken them away from many people.

Since they are illegal in most states I just don't see them as being worthwhile to carry.

Give me a stick or a knife any day.

I'm surprised a blauer follower would consider nunchucks a useful weapon though. Might as well carry a katana, it' be damn more effective.

      uh..what?

you gonna buss some kids head with mad numb-chuck skillz?

      gimme a fuckin' break!

Here's my advice, carry shit that's NOT illegal, and inconspicuous.
Like a ball point pen, or a tactical folder. Shit, you could buy a cheapie watch from some shit store like Walmart, or something, make sure it's nice and heavy...and use it as a knuckle duster.
Roll of quarters...works, those little keibo pocket sticks with the pointy ends are cool...(but not too much better than a sharpie marker if you really think about it)

      Best weapon is yo mind.
Think about shit around you to use to your advantage, like curbs...corners of desks and tables, glasses, bottles, table knives, forks and spoons...books...newspapers...towels, t-shirts...belts, keys are overrated...trust me on that one...if they're wearing a tie or not...a sports coat can assist in throws and locks like a gi for judo and jiu jitsu...
you can use walls or the floor to smash people into.
aerosol cans of any kind...includes Krylon spray paint, hair spray, binaca...

Weapons surround you, always...unless you're in a padded cell, or some sort of white room...there are always things to even up the odds.

Shit, even in an nhb match, you can use the ring to your advantage, or cage...in a bunch of legal or illegal ways. Ropes and turnbuckles can be fun, so can mesh. (remember when Tank ground a guy into the cage?)

Shit, a rock or a brick is probably a good bet, so are any other blunt weapons you find around, a piece of pipe, broken drum sticks, loose change,
      broken glass, plastic bags, saliva...

I can go on forever with this.....

You get what you pay for, Garland. Gerber sells 3" blades at most sporting stores, but they get kinda loose if you carve wood. They rust easily too.

I surprised that my favorite weapon hasn't been mentioned.

          Legal everywhere, even on planes..........

          Medium to short range..............

          Endless possibilities.............

          The solid walking CANE

It also gives you a stereotypical advantage,
          CANE = crippled, weak, helpless
(nothing could be further from the truth)

While admittedly having never trained with nunchuks... how are they going to be better than a stick?... Just dont see it... the range isnt their, I believe you have less control... hmm... enlighten me.

Two sticks with a short cord or chain linking them together on the ends...

                    Think pincher, scissors or clamp...

                    Any more questions?

What else can you do with a short stick? say something like a side handle baton?

The PR-24 Police Baton: a Training Manual for Law Enforcement Officers, 1976, 1981, Richard R. Starrett. Monadnock Lifetime Products, Inc. New Hampshire.

Power is a function of speed: Spinning techniques are most effective when accomplished with great speed. The speed which can be generated at the long extended end when spinning the PR-24 baton gives it a shocking power much greater than that of the conventional police baton. Shocking power is the amount of kinetic energy an impacting object transfers to its target, and, according to medical authorities, the severity of a blow is determined by the amount of actual or kinetic energy of the object.

the problem with nunchucks is bounce back when you hit something hard, the chain can be useful but is also a major liability as if the weapon becomes tangled you are in trouble. Once commited you must complete the path before you can change direction and if something occurs mid path you can lose control.

One of the most effective strikes with nunchucks is not really a swing but more of a pop that sends a chuck out straight at the target.

While they are a lot of fun to play with and can be great for demonstrations there are just too many more useful weapons you could carry and some of them are legal.

Great Post, Tant. Actually you could have been talking about any kind of strike!

                        KE = 1/2 (mass) x (velocity)^2

An small increase in velocity produces a noticeable increase in KE.

Look at Bruce Lee or better yet (and less controversial) Dekkers.

Well im just thinking... nunchuks... vs... stick...

We're talking about weapons here... soo 31 inches long, 1 1/8inches in diameter is my stick...

now if you have your nunchuks .. and I jab this in your face... what would the nunchuks do.. wrap around my stick?.. is that how you would defend that.. cause at that point I would just close the distance and elbow your face in.... thats my thoughs anyway.

                            Works for me......

I don't play with chucks myself but if I did I wouldn't use them on your stick.

Do you fence? If so you probably know a good defense to a typical thrust at the face...

And I'd flat out challenge anyone to hit harder with a PR-24 from a spin than a regular stick swung dog-brother style. I hate the damned PR-24 (I still think it stands for "pretty ridiculous"). Sticks can hit harder than a PR-24 will ever hit using the side handle and a twirl.
Do they thrust the end like a sword or swing it an arc? You know, cause I never saw a cop spin it (when they were standard issue) unless they were showing off (but lots of swinging when they used it) They know what hurts.
It fits a forearm like a shield and makes the contact points for thrusting better with a side handle but it's just a stick... with a gimmick.
