True even Gecko45 did a little of his own research.
Is there a smilie for the thing where you make an airplane with your hand and make it go over your head and make an airplane noise because the point you made went totally over the guys head? Because that would come in real handy right about now.

We'll tell you where to find it when you actually make a point

"We" will tell you? Who is "We"? Oh is that the guy that can't think for himself, the guy who makes unfunny one-liners and gets a pat on the back from his fellow weekend warriors? I guess "We" doesn't need to ever make a point because the smilie who knowingly winks does that for him.
It must make you feel warm inside knowing your deadly secret training puts you out of harms way while the people who train in the Unrealistic arts (that have proven themselves time and time again to actually work) wait for inevitable death at the hands of rabid hobos.

Yep it's the retarded smiley.........looks like this.
What is it with you guys and hypothetical scenarios? Yeah, it happens, but not as often as it doesn't happen, not even close.
I don't advocate street fighting. I've seen where it leads, and I feel someone who actively trains usually finds a positive release for all that adrenaline. Nor do I glorify violence (except in the ring or cage, that I endorse). I find that those who train for the street usually out of fear are more inclined to need to prove themselves than someone who already has in the ring.
Train hard, HAVE FUN, and make friends. Truer words couldn't have come out of a fortune cookie.
Been working so haven't had time to reply, and I notice the thread has taken on the usual levels of shit flinging!
I don't talk about hypothetical situations. I am a frontline cop so everything I talk about is based on first hand experiences involving myself, my fellow officers or the victims I deal with on a day to day basis.
But you are right. Certainly in my country the chances of getting in a life threatening situation or even a fight, is reasonably slim (although statistics have shown that violent offences have increased in the last 5 years). And most of the rest of the situations can be avoided using soft skills that are enhanced from RBSD training. You don't need to regularly train in RBSD, but a seminar or a few sessions combined with some effective sport based MA will put you in a good position to defend yourself should the shit hit the fan.
What I have discovered though is that if you don't regularly train using some dirty techniques in your training, you will not do them in reality. I have noticed many fellow officers struggle to contain a resisting offender because they are not using effective control and contain techniques that they have talked about using but never trained. Therefore they did not do it in reality and under pressure. It is about forming a mindset that you will actually use in a physical confrontation and that you have trained using regularly.
There are some RBSD clubs that do prey on the "fear" element in their training. "Fear" sells. People will pay money if they think they can sleep at night with a bit of comfort. I don't like it necessarily, sometimes it's pushing the reality boundries a bit and is erroneous, but a real fight is different to a sport one.....not massively different but different enough to make a point.
I have fun when I train and I train for work but mostly because I enjoy it. I don't train out of fear.....I don't know about others here but I'm confident that they train because they enjoy it too.

Thank you!
Since my late wife died after a prolonged battle against cancer I have come to realize that many if not ALL of the women I've dated have been victimized by the men that allegedly "loved" them...
There's a statistic to look up! How many girls need to get a clue about dysfunctional relationships?
I bet you see more than a few Domestic Assaults every month?
That was beautiful, WildWest. Based firmly on reality and not in the basement of a grown mans mothers house while watching a Steven Siegal marathon. Now we are getting somewhere thanks to you. Straight to the point. I would have gone with a bit more flair, but I understand, you're a cop.
Is a frontline cop the same as a beat cop? Did you do something wrong or do you just like the action? (sorry, I just don't want you to miss out on the flinging and such)
Sorry to hear that, Tant01, I really am. The reality of women being victimized by relatives and people they know is ridiculously high. I think I know few that haven't been. That's why I strongly advocate training and awareness for children and women especially. The place I grew up had a very high crime rate (#1 murder rate more than once actually), and though I did move my family to a better place, it still isn't Disneyland. Everyone in my family trains at least twice a week and is taught gun safety and how to use one.
The trick is to make it fun, and beneficial to your mental and physical health. Because we all know the chances of dying of cardiovascular disease is MUCH higher than being violently killed. And knowing... is half the battle.

Do tell?
I'm sorry to hear about your wife mate.
I arrested a guy on Sunday for beating up on his wife.
I would say the most common jobs we attend are traffic accidents and domestic violence incidents. Both around the same amount and we are only a small country. Domestic violence is a sad, tragic affair.

Ever eye-gouge a bikie?
I'm not too sure what a beat cop does but a frontline cop is first response basically. We go where the dispatcher tells us to go and are first on the scene.
I like the unpredictability of the job, but I don't like to fight. I enjoy training and sparring and wrestling and rolling but not for real. Remember cops HAVE TO WIN which makes it challenging. Every situation is different though.
No I haven't eye gouged a bikie. Most them are too busy trying to make big bucks cooking meth to cause much problems. I have used the "Shredder" before though and it's worked a treat. Check out Welcome to Senshido for what the Shredder is and their philosophy for real world violence...if you're interested.
