Remind me when it became your duty to make judgements and presumptions like this about others? And in doing so, what gives you the right to criticise others who make judgements as well?

As I've often requested, please explain your hypocrisy.

How was that quote unfounded when it was in response to foolishness like this:

Bling and rims, huh? Deion Sanders, all time NFL and MLB great is yet another ... how did you put it ... "a loudmouth, materialistic punk"? I believe you said that a Hall of Famer is the last thing that we need. Hmm .. sounds like a hater to me.

It isn't about their ability, performance or record. Its about their flashiness and flamboyance. How silly is that?

I see others here calling you out on your nonsense and attempts to make your judgement personal, but I haven't seen any one yet call me a hypocrite for what I've written here but you.

Time and again, I've credited Floyd for being one of the best boxers ever. I just don't like the image he's putting out there. It's not to my taste. I don't like many things in the world. Brussel sprouts, for example. MacCallan scotch, for another. Pink socks are not my thing. I don't like people who glamourize drugs, like many of the indie rockers out there, and I don't like people who glamourize gangs or violence like Fifty Cent. Those, my dear Uke, are my opinions. They are my choices and tastes. Much the same as it is your choice not to like Oscar De La Hoya, or your choice to call someone who won Olympic Gold and then eight different title belts a "Chicken."

If I'm in the hater club, Uke, you're right there with me.

Floyd Mayweather doesn't glamourize drugs. Oscar Delahoya is called Chicken DelaHoya in everything from boxing magazines to other boxing forums.

All my criticisms of the man have to do with his performance as a boxer, not his personal life. Simple and plain.

I have ALWAYS said that I would defend EVERYONE'S right to express how they feel. However, free speech isn't your pass to make comments that won't be challenged. You challenged me on the Savate topic, and I responded. I've challenged your personal attacks on athletes that have nothing to do with them being athletes. It was off topic and inappropriate for a boxing discussion. The tangents that this debate took were due to your persistent attacks on a man's personality and style of dress.

I have liked some musicians who have glamourized certain things, not because of their message in particular, but because I like the beat/sound/mood created. While I think Dr. Dre for example creates the beat/sound/mood that I like, you'll never find me rollin' down the street smokin' indo sippin' on jin and juice.

It would be nice if kids (and people) could separate entertainment from real-life, but sometimes they can't. I would not listen to that kind of music around anyone that I felt could not distinguish this.

I agree with alot of what you say, Mike.

I'm against someone in the spotlight acting the way Floyd has. I'm also against the glorification of drugs and violence that you see in a lot of sports entertainment today; its not good for boxing.

I wish that we could make boxing the All-American sport that it deserves to be!

What can I say? I still think that sports and sportsmanship go hand in hand. I think it's impressive to see a fighter walk over and hoist his opponent's hand after a great fight, and give him credit for a fight well-fought. After all, what does more to build up a fighter? beating a guy and calling him a coward and a bum? Or beating a guy who was a tough, crafty, able fighter? Anyone can whip a bum...

I just miss the days, and the fighters, when respect and sportsmanship weren't dirty words.

Mike, You are so right. I started a thread on this topic and got little response, I figured it was just because I was older and out of touch with my youthful conterparts on this forum. Glad to see that someone else agrees with me.

That's exactly what I've been trying to say! I'm glad it's at least clear to some folks. Thanks Tom.

All I'm saying is that Floyd, while being a great, great fighter, isn't putting forth the kind of image or encouraging the kind of pursuits that I'd want my son to emulate. I don't fault Floyd for making his money or living his dream, and I respect the hell out of the work it took for him to get there. It just turns me off to see him putting on the airs he is, and it makes me pull for Oscar all the more.
