My slaps are also faster than my punches and less detectable according to people who i train with.

The angles are the same whether i give a rebounding stinging slap with the fingers, or a full on palm strike that knocks you out. It sounds like youre using WC for the entire thought process when analyzing palms. A Taiji or Baqua stylest certainly SHOULD have several devastating palm strikes at their disposal. Slaps downward to the top of the head or back of the neck for instance. Slaps with the back of the hand to the throat and neck can also stun an opponent long enough to finish him.
a. require large arcs to cause damage; thus requiring a little more time to pull off
b. To make use of the proper palm area of damage, you need to be closer than someone who's punching, therefore a straight puncher will have an advantage as you are in their range plus their attacks are faster
c. Incorrect use or mistake may cause you to damage your thumb.

boarspear, do you think downward or side swiping slaps could be effective against the top of the head or back of the head (not vulnerable part joining the neck i mean hard surface back of the head) me and my 2 training partners were taking turns sparring and when we stoped was debating the effectiveness of slaps and we came to differ, i was saying they could be effective with proper training, and my friend was saying if you have oppertunity to strike downwards upon the top of the head or back, then you should use a harder strike like a palm smash or hammer fist, closed handed strike etc, then we tested it out and my hand slaps tot he top of the head were good, and proved effective because i was striking fast but he evaded 80% of the slaps, but im still not certain if there that effective or not,
what do you think about this type of thing, hitting harderned body parts with weaker techniques and weapons, ?

Its a simple formula, soft weapons to hard targets and hard weapons to soft targets. Also people seem to think a slap cant be a palm strike. If you practice Iron Palm you are practicing slapping...some people use slaps to break concrete, that pretty much shows a slap can pack a wallop. I really dont care for hitting the top of the head, however if I have to, I will probably break the rules and use a hammerfist or elbow strike. Its fairly impractical to try to hit a man who is standing up on the top of the head with any part of your body unless you have a significant height advantage though.
sorry i didnt explain properly, not hitting the top of the head out of choice, hitting it because your oon an elevated position to them, or they are half down we were doing combat situations, where the other persons hard spots are the most logical to strike for that situation, and yes slaps can be palm strikes ofcourse they can,
