You use the same argument all the time. I have done this style and that style. If that's so then just bring it. No excuses, just prove it with your fists.

Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves. Albert Einstein
When you are courting a nice girl an hour seems like a second. When you sit on a red-hot cinder a second seems like an hour. That's relativity.

Benn, first of all, I don't have anything to prove, and I don't fight for pride and glory as you seem to think. Secondly, if you really understood Kung Fu, you would know that it is very dangerous to even spar full contact. There are many dangerous techniques that will seriously hurt the opponent. Yes there are many techniques that can be done that would not have to do so. But in combat you never know what is going to come at you. And Kung Fu was designed for survival combat, not sport.Originally posted by Ben Grimm View PostYou use the same argument all the time. I have done this style and that style. What seems to have happened in our western society, is that many martial arts schools want to get into the Tournament circles and have student spar for trophies and glory and to make it fun for the kids. I understand the kids part. So they gear there fighting towards a softer kick boxing style sport competition. This may do away with some of the survival combat aspect often and a whole new thing comes out of it.

You understand so little, but you are partially correct. You are correct about society becoming more tournament oriented, but sparring full contact is not dangerous if you don't use the dangerous techniques. I'm not saying don't train them, but you make TCMA seem more dangerous than what it is.

I understand a lot more than you know I do. Having four masters and many teachers over the years has taught me a bit.Originally posted by Ben Grimm View PostYou understand so little, but you are partially correct. Traditional martial arts is dangerous, yes, kung fu is deadly. And many of the strikes and techniques in kung fu have specific targets that can cause real damage. In MMA, a sport fighting style that was designed for the ring it seems, they cannot strike certain ways. They cannot hit behind the head or the kneck, or kick to the face when the opponent is down, I don't think they are they are allowed to press the fingers or thumb into the different nerve areas of the neck or they cannot do finger breaks or eye attacks or groin attacks.
Just imagine if the MMA fighters were allowed to knee or kick or strike the groin, the entire fighting style would change.
I am not sure if in the MMA they are allowed to head butt in the face or the nose. If so I have not seen this much.
Interestingly I had two grapplers who had done wrestling come to the kung fu class last week. They were interested in Kung Fu and they liked the Seven Star Mantis form we were learning. Afterwards I was talking with them about the MMA bit and I said to the stronger one, I had him attack me with his attack and he saw that Kung fu works. He again attacked me with a shoot attack, he was real fast and i used a shifting stance technique that lifted one arm and pressed the other down, he went flipping over to the side. he saw that there are different ways of dealing with grapplers.
And when I tell a person to attack me or to try a shoot on me, I expect full speed.

You are just hopeless. Do you really think anyone believes that, LARPer?Originally posted by TigerClaw View Post

A grappler wouldn't just go in with a shoot. Damn LARPer has been watching too many movies again.
