I was always taught that a dictionary was a point of reference in order to help convey ideas through language. Am I wrong? Are the definitions of these terms in the dictionary incorrect?

I never had a problem with what greentea was teaching. I only questioned what it was being called. (As evident by comments in my previous posts.)

I'm hoping that you can shed some light on this issue in an eloquent and succinct manner without resulting to personal attacks. I've never equated honor, respect, humility or restraint with name calling.

That guy Greentea is right. He is also very brave to post what he wrote and taking a stand for what he feels is right also very correct. Everyone knows that even the Eastern Martial Arts have the history of Honor implied and teach respect, humility and restraint. To be able to use humility and let one who has lower personal development believe that -what he may wish- if that is what is called for at the time.

Okay in other words if You got a guy mouthing off or acting like a bully- doesnt mean that you must take it personally and resort to that level yourself.

It seems that this message is taught less and that the attitude to fight at the drop of a hat is being more promoted in some martial arts circles.

Life is a short journey and the true answers are outside of violence and destruction.

BB408 You mention Jesus Christ, but fail to mention what he had really stood for. Didnt he admonish Peter to put away his sword after he had cut off the ear of one of the guards of the pharisees? He then had the power to heal the mans ear.

Have you heard of him punching out the Pharisees when they came many times to bully Him? Didnt He say Blessed are the Humble and The meek for they shall see God? He took the position of offering the left side when one was insulted by the strike on the right cheek.

Not to say that He also didnt practise or advocate defensive maneuvers himself. He had escaped numerous times when they came after Him. When the time came for His laying down His life, and the fulfillment of all things, He had allowed His own arrest. Imagine His disciples fighting with everyone who had come to persecute them. Of course they had a different world view then that of the average street hoodlum or worldly person. However My own position on Self Defense when it is called for...to quote Theologian Norman Geisler

The Sword that Jesus had mentioned was to point out that the world would hate those that sought God and would persecute them.

What kind of sword? It is the sword of division that God's word brings. It is the division of truth from error, and the reaction of the darkness against the light.
