  • ALl of you are right, but he does pose a good point. If you pull any weapon on an unarmed crowd, you graetly intimidate any ammount of people, both armed an unarmed. Bringing out a weapon is could make them strike sooner, or simply strike when they wouldnt before. And yes, Boarspear, I would rather use my hands and feet. A mashine gun could possibly create much adrenaline, and anyone else w/ a gun will get intimidated the most. If you do carry a weapon, do not reveal it first hand. Keep in handy, and ready for when needed. That way Some intimidation is avoided.
Pardon if my inglish is bad at some points.
Hope I resolved SOMETHING for once...

Ah now i see the confusion...weapons are for USING not brandishing....you open up on a crowd and it will scatter....that pretty much ruins the chances of someone retaliating effectivley...not that I am advocating machine gunning a crowd of unarmed civilians, I am not a natl guardsman after all

So by your logic, soldiers and cops should go unarmed because weapons could possibly be turned against them? Weapons exist because they give you an advantage. In my opinion, the first rule of any unarmed engagement is: Get Armed! Do you suppose your friend with the bat would have come out any better if he'd been unarmed? Or are you one of those that just hopes that large groups of people bent on attacking isolated people will listen to reason as long as you don't have a weapon? I don't think anyone should carry a weapon for intimidation. I think they should carry - and use - them for self-protection.
No a cop should not go unarmed because i agree with you when you say it does give him an advantage. and yes i do believe my friend would have turned out better because had he not had a bat he would not have been stripped of it and beaten with it. so the beating would have only been with the guys hands and feet. and brewer putting up your dukes is the best option in a group. you may not win but you'll go down with some dignity and wont suffer getting your own weapon turned on you!

          • The best weapon I have, and carry constantly is a keen awareness and common sense. Don't go where you shouldn't. Don't do things you shouldn't. Pay attention to where you are. Pay attention to what's going around you. Don't let you ego get the best of you. Stay clean and sober.
The guns and knives are usually reserved for when you stray from the above.

Oh! and the big problem with carying a gun or knife is that it won't do you any good unless you are prepared and willing to use it. I'm not sure I am either. Until I am I'll refrain.

            • a weapon that you have neither the training or gumption to use isnt a weapon...its a liability...and it will probably get you hurt if you pull it...at minimum it will give you a FALSE sense of security...

              • Do not pull a weapon unless you intend to kill. You may stop short of doing so, But you do not know how the situation will change once a weapon is introduced.

If you pull a knife or a gun, or even a bat without realizing you may indeed be preparing to kill someone then you have no business carrying a weapon.

                  • Self defense is the legal justification for the use of force. It will be up to the Jury to decide if your actions were reasonable or stupid.

If a group of unarmed people attack you and you pull a weapon, you may intimidate some crowds, but those crowds are the crowds that wouldnt harm you too bad either. In a tough unarmed crowd, you might be able to hit one or two guys with ur weapon b4 they get it from you and turn it on you. I know a guy that tried fightin a group with a bat and it didn't turn out pretty.

weapons are needed, i would rather carry a weapon and end up not having to use it, than need one and not have one, tons of people are armed on the streets your at a dissadvantage if your unnarmed, i dont like killing people, but if somebody wants to take my life or my family/friends i will kill, and feel no guilt about it, im never the attacker but i will slit throats and shoot faces if im provoked in a life or death situation, hope i dont have to hurt too many more people but life is life and no doubt im goign to have to harm more over the years, 90% of people like trouble round here, so if they find it its there own fault,

i have tons of weapons, guns, swords, daggers, knives, blunt weapons, staffs, maces, axes, sticks, nunchaka, escrima weapons, training bokkens and sticks, spear, kwan dao, gim sword, shurikens, dao sword. lots more, oh yeah and a nice walking cane that i made with a sharp notch on the end, nice legal weapon.

                              peace.
