You know the thing is that I've met Karateka of various styles, a handful of Kung-Fu /Gung-Fu stylists, TKD men, boxers and Jiu-Jitsu players that DO FULL IMPACT on demand. Judo training methods have been around long enough that even the "traditional" artists can learn to inflict some serious trauma. I've said it before, it's not the style my friend, it's the man doing it. Don't underestimate a style because of these prejudice attitudes toward Mc. Dojo's. And never LUMP several styles into the same "helpless boat" because FRANKLY Mr. Green just because you havn't had your ass handed to you by a Ju-Jutsu man or been KO'd by a boxer doesn't mean it can't happen...

This last part of your post is almost funny in a way. It's like a TKD guy punching the air in front of your face. Just wind...

    • It takes hundreds of pounds of pressure to break bricks and boards it only takes a few pounds of pressure to break bones (If the person knows where and how to strike).
This is kind of true. On an unexperienced person this is definitly true. I watched a program on discovery channel where they were calibrating how hard of a punch karate masters could throw, as well as kicks. Some of thier kicks registered in the 2000psi range. However, they were also able to take kicks this powerful into their ribs. They had these suits on that showed all their movements. They were trying to figure out why certian techniques passed through all martial arts. So on a person that knows how to take a hit, its not so easy to break them down.

      GREENTHINKS,

I hope your kidding. A sickly, phnemonia infected, 365lb, 5'11", what? Giving fighting advice in all caps. You should stick to teaching us diet techniques in the fitness forum. The CAPS button is on the left of your keyboard. They even put a light on the upper right side for people that cant tell its on.

      • I know that You know Koppo

True People who condition to take strikes are in the same group as people who condition to give strikes. But I know that you Koppojutsu so where does that leave us? There are certain areas of the body that are still vunerable to breaking no matter how built or conditioned the individual may be

        • If You Want To Call What You Do Combat Well A Firearm Will Settle That Question Real Quick. It Is A Sport, Sport.

What Is Best Left Unsaid? That I Am Fat ? So What. I Am Open Minded And Don't Mind Being The Butt Of Jokes.
My Point Is Boxers Wear Gloves And Headgear. Karate Guys Can't Practice Kicking Their Opponents In The Head As Hard As They Can.
Kung -fu Guys Can't Practice Pokeing Each Other In The Eyes As Hard As They Can. But Judo Guys Can And Do Go Full Bore . Maybe
You Should Be A Little More Open Minded.

You Can't Say That You Can Avoid Being Thrown. Have You Ever Been Up Against An International Level Judo Champion. How Can You Beleive Such A Thing.i Bet You Couldn't Escape A Crushing Hold-down. Or Armbar. You Are Correct About The Ju-jitsu .it Is The Same As Turn Of The Century Judo, Which Came From Ju-jitsu?

I Don't Think We Can Discount Any Martial Arts Style. That Is Where The Saying, " It Ain't The Size Of The Dog In The Fight , It Is The Size Of The Fight In The Dog"!

All Fighting -martial Arts -use The Same Tools, That Being The Human Body. No Matter What You Choose To Call It It , When Done Properly Is The Same Whether It Comes From One Country Or Another,or Pronounced Differantly, A Punch Or Kick Or Throw Or Arm Bar Or Choke Or What Ever Still Depends On The Same Dynamics Of The Human Body.

Yup, I'm not the POS you address in your post but as an amatuer Judoka I'd just like to say that I know there are exceptions to every rule. Not every Judo player strives to become a better individual with a grasp of the fragility and value of life and the gifts of balance and economy of energy, grace, agility and humility.

A Story: In the Navy I became friends with an abnormally strong fellow from Georgia. He was about 5-7 and 325+\-lbs. You've heard the expression "Built like a brick house"? This guy was probably the strongest man I've ever met and my cousin "Tiny" is no slouch. They both trained for the "World Strongman" titles.

The word STEROIDS come to mind? In the service there are standards for weight that can get you discharged for obesity. Tyrone was under such a threat when we met. The problem was this guy only had about 17% body fat! To give you an idea of HIS strength, the tail-hook on the A-6E bomber weighs over 500 pounds. It's about 8 feet long and splits to a Y shape half way up. I can lie on my back under the thing and press it a few inches ( a foot or two ) off the deck with BOTH LEGS so another guy can hook a chain on it to keep it from draging on the tarmak under tow.

Tyrone could pick it up with his hands to his shoulder and wrap a chain on it by himself. With another guy there to lock the tailhook pin he could lift it above his chin to stow it!

He actually pulled a jet by the tow bar one time (NOT with his teeth) just a few feet to show us he could do it, they only weigh about 30,000 pounds empty though...

                      • Practising In The Atmosphere Of A Controlled Situation , Like A School Is Comparable To Shooting A Pistol At The Range. Some Of It Is Applicable To Real Life (combat) But Some Will Get You Hurt Or Killed. Don't Underestimate Your Opponant.

What Makes You Think That You Can Keep Someone From Grabbing You? Instead Of Practising Not Being Grabbed, You Should Practice What To Do If You Are Grabbed. Could You Prevent Being Grabbed In A Phone Booth? Of Course Not. Just As I Would Hate To Try And Grab Some Well Trained Karate Guy In A Parking Lot. What Surface Would You Be Fighting On ? Ice? In Water Or Mud? On A Hill, In A House ? It Is All Differant. In A Foxhole, In A Car? In The Dark? Winter Clothes On?

                        • At The Gym I Go To Ballys, There Is A Black Guy Who Is Also An Assistant High School Principal Named Ron. This Guy Warms Up With What I Max Out At . And He Is Smaller Than Me. He Benches About 500 Lbs And He Just Makes Me Sick!( I Am Kidding. )

There Are Freaks Of Nature Running Around Loose And That Should Be Enough To Keep One Humble And Polite And Well Mannered.

That Is Part Of Martial Arts, The Socialization Part.
Always Some One Bigger, Badder Or Meaner.

I Have Learned That Most Times The Effort It Takes To Become An Athlete Also Reflects On A Persons Personality. They Are Usually High Class Types Of People Also. This Ron Is A Good Example Of That ,he Is A Real Nice Guy Fortunately. I Saw That In Judo Also.
I Don't Know If Athletics Builds Good People Or Attracts High Class People. Probably A Little Of Both.

THE TRUE TEST IS ONE IN THE SAME. WHEN SOMEONE LANDS A GOOD PUNCH OR KICK, IT IS A NATURAL( SUBCONCIOUS) INSTINCT(?) FOR EVERYBODY TO STOP AND ADMIRE IT. THAT IS WHERE A WELL TRAINED FIGHTER WILL RESIST THE URGE AND IMMEDIATLY COUNTER ATTACK OR FOLLOW UP. DURING THAT LULL OF A SECOND OR TWO THAT IS A "GOLDEN MOMENT" TO REACT. WHEN ASSAULTED THERE IS A MOMENT WHERE THE
ASSAILENT ALSO "ADMIRES" HIS EFFECT ON HIS INTENDED VICTIM.THAT WILL ALLOW A COUNTER ALSO. LIFE OR DEATH!

                              • He's just bitter because he's fat...and no...I wouldn't grapple with somebody your size ever....not just because there's almost a 100 lb weight discrepency...but because I don't like touching people who smell like ass and rotting fish.
sure you may bench over 300...but you still likely have sausage tits and a jelly roll....
it would be like rolling with a biker crossed with a mall santa.

I wouldn't lower myself to fighting with a bum...unless they had an unopened bottle of 2 buck chuck...in which case...they're hosed.
