Cross-training and combining martial arts is far from new. Take your average samurai back in the days of feudal Japan. He was not only a skilled sword fighter but also with kyudo (archery), yaris, naginatas, staves, knives, and a variety of other weapons. They were also skilled in unarmed combat, many training in various forms of jujitsu as they realized their weapons would not always be on hand. Martial artists learned quickly from back then that the more you knew the more likely you were to survive, and Bruce Lee just helped bring that to light and make it a popular idea.
