Is There Any Difference Between Jeet Kune Do And Jun Fan Gung Fu ?

I haven't a clue. Since Bruce was the creater of both, I suppose that is one correlation. Perhaps Jun Fan Gong Fu is the name of Bruce's Jeet Kune Do school.
On a different note, rent the movie "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" Its the story of Bruce based from his wife's book.

In my understanding jkd is a concept, not and art. it is a philosophy of training. Bruce was quoted as saying he regretted the day that he referred to it as a style.
Jun Fan was a style and still is.

my 2 cents...
As I understand it Jun Fan is the style of "Gung Fu" that Bruce was working on. He then had the idea of the style without style..... and Jeet Kune Do was born.
Just my opinion. I believe Jun Fan was what Bruce was teaching in Oakland. It was based on the Wing Chun he studied back in China. And as the story goes, he was challenged for teaching Chinese Kung Fu to non-chinese. It was after this fight, that Bruce began to question his training in kung fu. He felt his current training at the time was insufficient in defeating the challenger in a "real" confrontation.
I don't think people realize the importance of this one event that was the changing point in Bruce's learning of the MA. He actually had to 'fight' and his training in Wing Chun left him winded afterwards. The 'traditional' training he recieved and was teaching wasn't enough for the 'real' fight Bruce had to face. This led Bruce to question the whole 'traditional' way of thinking and search for a more efficient means training in the combat arts. Bruce's pursuit to become a better more efficient MA resulted in the devlopment of what he later named Jeet Kune Do.
so jun fan was a prequel to jkd, could jun fan have been developed in a different direction by someone else ?
I imagine so. I feel many instructors trying to make a quick buck attach the name "Jun Fan" to whatever it is they are teaching, using the name to attract students. Saying they teach Jun Fan/ JKD . When in fact the two are separate. IMO Jun Fan is a style of Kung Fu, and JKD are Concepts for all MA to use in there personal pursuit to better themselves...

A wise man once said....Jun Fan must be your base to be a JKD practioner. If Jun Fan is not your base then it's not JKD. Call it whatever you want, but it's not JKD, not the way Bruce intended it to be.

Some may use it to make a buck, but I use it to describe the way I was taught. My Sifus father was a part of the Oakland Jun Fan School. My Sifu does not use any of the original names.
Latest news coverage, email, free stock quotes, live scores and video are just the beginning. Discover more every day at Yahoo!
But I don't teach my Sifus art and I call my Kempo Ju Jitsu, but when I describe it I say its a blend of Jun Fan and Jujitsu.

Jun fan gung fu is basically chinese kickboxing, while jeet kune do is the non-stop way of fighting, where i think in my opinion he took all of what he learned for example, wing chun gung fu and mixed it in. Ohh if your looking for a hardcore place to study jeet kune do check out this site. it has kung fu too. This sites extreme and extremely traditional. Read how you get certain belts it may frighten you. To view the ranking system click on "words from master lee" i think i like this guy, it says he fights allof his first students with one hand behind his back. Learn why! www.KungFuLifestyle.comLast edited by WaTEr; 08-01-2003, 11:09 PM.

Simply put:Jun Fan Gung Fu is Bruce Lee's art,it's the way Bruce fought. It's also called OJKD (Original JKD)
Now you have JKD and JKDC.
JKD is the way,the concept the principle that lies behind Jun Fan.They go hand in hand. That's why most of the time you hear Jun Fan Jeet Kune Do.
JKDC is JKD Concepts. These guys like Paul Vunak took JKD as a principle and concept and applied this to what they learned.
Dan Inosanto studied Kali and applied JKD to Kali for example.
I see Jun Fan as a perequisite for JKDC.You learn JFJKD and can move on to JKDC,learning new stuff rejecting what is useless etc... you know.....
For example a JKDC guy don't fight like a Jun Fan guy.
The JKDC guy will enter the distance with a limb destruction tech, will move on with the clinch, then headbutts, elbows etc...
The Jun Fan guy will enter with a fake finger jab or low side kick into a straightblast and finish with the clinch or a takedown.

One jkd guy won't fight like another jkd guy unless they are twins. The whole of jkd can be expressed in this paraphrase of the FULL quote:
Accept what is usefull; reject the rest (here's the part everyone forgets) AFTER you have developed a better solution.
For me to try and fight like anyone but ME is an excercise in futility. I'm neither as fast as X, strong as Y, nor as flexible as Z; hence I fight to MY strong suites.
Learn a system and fix it's holes as it relates to YOUR body type and mental outlook.
