Most people around here don't take kindly to TKD, but all I could say is get flexible and learn combos to catch people offguard. Do you do ITF or WTF and how long have you been doing it? If your instructor can't teach you his style, then go get a new one.... no matter how cool your instructor is, your paying him to teach you to fight or win tournaments or whatever. But anyway, how long have you been in this system?

The key is setting the kick up. Kick low to start out, watch for your opponents hands to drop. If they do, fake a low kick then go high. Let your opponent think he has you figured out right kick low three or four times. Watch for the hand block and blast him in the head. Simple.

                  ...

One, use feints to redirect your opponents attention and slow their reaction time. Two, kick over and over again.

                  Later...

Your right. My masters grandfather founded ITF. I havnt been doing TKD nearly as long as you but Ive found it afective to fake a back kick and hit them with a hook kick.

I've been sparring for a while and I use high kicks alot. I have found that the key is speed (duh). A good way to increase speed is plyometric exercises and a lot of concentration kicks. ( I don't know what you call them, but i mean kicks where you perform them slowly and then hold them for a while.) They make your legs stronger. And as somebody mentioned in this topic, setting up your kicks is the only way you'll ever really score with high kicks.

i do tkd myself and never have trouble in too many tournaments, if you want to work on your kicks so that they won't be so ovious make sure that your body (shoulders and the knee of the leg your not kicking with ) does'nt dip down when you kick so that your inverted T looks the same as if you were just standing there as when you are throwing a kick to the head. Also here's is just a tip for you that i use a lot in tournaments. when you first start off and go into your fighting stance go into the stance that you are worst, most fighters figure that where you start off is your good side ( ex. if you are right handed start off left handed and switch your feet a lot, not ony does this confuse the opponinte what your good side is but most people look down at your feet when you change feet which leaves them open for a head kick.)

                        have a nice day

Feints are always a good way to make an opening, use plenty of kicks to the body at first, if your opponent gets into a rythem of blocking kicks that are relatively low then a high kick will catch him off guard and you should connect
