look, just because you're not holding your arm straight doesn't mean he can't throw you. Some times the arm doesn't even need to e straight in order for you to be thrown. He just needs to enter into a clinch and then you will be at his mercy from his trips, throws, and unbalancing.

    Note:
it is easy to grab a stick than to grab a snake (coiling motions)
I disagree sherwinc. What if the stick was on fire? Would it still be easy to grab? the answer is no. Now the snake on the other hand, could be dead. In that case, you can easily grab the snake for whatever reason.

Guys, how bout me against sherwinc ? High school wrestler with BJJ arsenal that has no experience in competitions what so ever. lol. Just to make it fair I won't use grappling on you. My "boot up your ass" will be more than enough to subdue thee.

the forearm doesnt fire..... so, if your punch is straight from shoulder up to your fist - then it is easy to grab for a Judo or any grabbing martial arts to throw you......

coiling hand attacks is harder to grab and harder to deflect (unless you are trained in Chi Sau or Twee Chiu)

i really love to hear for the non-kungfu saying that kungfu is imposible, not true, what type of drugs did you take, moron, HAW HAW HAW.....

cause the more that non-kungfu martial arts dont believe the devastating feats of kungfu - is the more the kungfu's advantages in a real fight....

..... it usually happens since yesterdays and up to nows - that too late for the nonkungfu to realize that it is better to know more than to know less.... the more the nonkungfu hate to face the reality the more the kungfu's advantages.....

In all seriousness, I think it depends on the person doing the fighting.Sure you can learn this and that but we (and our ancesters) have millions of years of instincts to fight with . But tell me why does kung-fu seem to attract all the bozo's?
I actually did hear the grasshopper.I met some old oriental guy and
while speaking I heard a noise so I looked down at my feet and it was a grasshopper. He (the grasshopper) was saying "Why does Kung-fu attract all the bozo's?

And I said because all the classical judo positions were full.

The Story of Grasshopper and the Ant

the grasshopper is fun of saying stupid things like (Bullshit, what type of drugs, moron, idiot) unto the ant while that ant is busy carrying more loads of foods to stack TO SAVE FOR THE RAINY DAY...... since grasshopper's frequently saying "less is better than more".......(less food is better than more stacks of food)..... then the rain poured heavy until it reached several weeks......

the grasshopper is very hungry and no food to eat while the ant is very happy eating his plenty classes of foods ( in kungfu: absorb what is usefull, reject what is useless, add especially what is your own)

i dont know what bozo's means?

my instructor subdivided our kungfu's into three following:
                    1. Animal Form of KungFu (Seven Star Praying Mantis KungFu, Southern Eagle Claw KungFu, etc...)
                    2. Human Form of KungFu (TaiChiChuan KungFu, AngKaKun KungFu, NgoChoKun KungFu, Hsing-I Chuan KungFu, Pa-Kua KungFu, HapKunTo KungFu, etc...)
                    3. Scientific Form of KungFu (ChiDianBun KungFu, WingChun KungFu, etc....)

i absorb all of these and reject what is useless, and i add especially what is my own according to my potentials...... but my major art is ChiDianBunKungFu and my secondary art is Hik Style Tai Chi Chuan and Hik Style Tai Chi Sword......

                    • Hey, sherwanc! You're beginning to sound a bit like Bruce Lee now...... Remember him? He's the guy who rejeced most of Wing Chun in favour of western boxing.

Mind you, what does he know compared to a master like you?

                      • I'm amazed at how some people can claim superiority over other arts while their knowledge of the others is from pictures in books

I'm amazed at how people think that their art has x amount of techniques whereas a lot of them can't be considered anything els but a slight variation ( hand or elbow 2 inches higher or stuff like that)

I'm amazed at how people can claim things without having the nee to prove it, instead they put down more claims to prove a claim

Kote gaeshi and shiho nage are just 2 throws which can be applied, no are aplied with the arm bent

The only Chines MA that do reasonably well against other stylist are Sanda fighters ( sanda ain't KF) and that only under their rules and usually on points
Also one of the last time they fought a Karate team was against a secundary Diado juku team ( the video shows they are secundary very well)

Upto now traditional KF people got their ass handed to them

Yes I know it is because 95% of their arsenal was prohibited ( even though a lot of these matches took place under the chinese peoples rules???)

                        • judo against kung fu

I don't want to put oil in the fire but think this goes well with the topic:

Mr. Kenichi Sawai (1903 - 1988), the founder of Taiki-Shisei-kenpou

Mr. Kenich Sawai was born in Fukuoka prefecture in 1903, and had fifth-dan of Judo and forth-dan of Kendo and I-aido. Later on, his ambition took him to the Chinese continent. There, he fought with the Chinese man who, all Chinese people recognized, represented Chinese kung-fu all over the country. His name was Wang. At a glance, Master Wang was skinny and not so big. Mr. Sawai was confident that he would win easily. However, Mr. Sawai could not hold him by using his techniques of Japanese Judo at which he was good and, on the contrary, he was sent flying every time he attempted to hold Wang. For the next stage, Wang had Mr. Sawai hold Wang's body, and then said 'Are you ready, Mr. Sawai?' As soon as Sawai replied 'OK', he was beaten at his heart and again sent flying by Wang.
Furthermore, Sawai attacked Wang with a stick used for Japanese Iaido. The result was the same as before. After defeating Sawai, Wang told him quietly 'Either a sword or a stick is just an extension of the hands.' Sawai was completely defeated and so shocked, that he could not eat anything. After considering, he, at age 36, decided to learn Yiquan from Wang. Initially, Sawai learned Yiquan from one of Wang's disciples, Master Yao Zongxun, who would be the formal successor of Wang later. Through training for a few years, Sawai's skill had developed very much and he was promoted to learn from Master Wang directly not only in the gym but also in the garden of Wang's house. Sawai was the only foreigner who was learning Yiquan under Wang. In additon to his fast enhancement of Yiquan's skill, Mr. Sawai's special skills of Japanese Iaido and Judo made him receive special attention from Master Wang.
August 15th 1945, 5 to 6 years had passed since Sawai started to learn Yiquan, World War II had ended. He was shocked very much by the defeat of his mother country and was considering suicide with his family. At that time, Master Wang came to his house and dissuaded him from suicide. Master Wang insisted that Mr. Sawai should live and return to Japan, which was the best choice not only for Sawai but also for Yiquan (Dachengquan).
After returning to Japan, Sawai practiced with Mr.Oyama Masutatsu, the founder of Kyokushin-karate, and also taught to Mr. Oyama's students. At the same time, Sawai separately started to teach Taiki-ken (Yiquan) to his own students in Meji Jingu forest, located Shibuya-Tokyo, every Sunday.
