What would the problem be?
the problem would be he aint really a capoera guy and just when you thought he was, you would discover it was bait....the big guy knows that...they are classmates and he aint buying the act ....as for the slow kicks...post some video of your caporia from inside the living room...

more play...dont assume they fight this way...

hehe, well if he doesn't fight that way I can't really tell. But I was just judging from those vids, I can't know how he actually fights.
And I didn't mean that HIS capoeira was slow or anything, but that capoira isn't the best for fighting since you see the kicks coming a lot more easy than many other stand up arts, don't you agree?
I don't do capoeira, but it can look really gracious for sure. I liked that last vid.. monkey style capoeira. :P

I'm assuming the big guy doesn't grapple? He instantly lost the good position he had on top, on the back of the smaller guy.

they both grapple...it just wasnt big dudes day...usually the little guy spends all day getting thrown i think he was just lucky that time....keep in mind they were 15 at the time and that was 1985... i suspect very few people their age were as aware of the ground back then as they were...

I think I am actually. But I can only judge from those vids. If he does boxing as well and didn't show any of it, I would definitely have more problems getting close. :P
But you said it would take guts to get past those kicks we saw on the video, and I highly disagree. Getting through kicks only is not that hard. If he uses his hands to stop you it's way harder. And those kicks didn't look all that dangerous.

Very true. And yeah for 15 that is pretty impressive I must say.

Yeah the problem comes trying to get them to STOP training School is REALLY fun...... my oldest child, a GIRL!! was running a 'protection" racket..Ie: you give me your lunch money, i wont kick your ass on 2nd grade BOYS from the 1st grade It was tough keeping the straight face in the office listening to the story from irate dads and the principle that my little girl was beating up the older boys to get money to buy more dresses for her barbie dolls (her excuse)
i left the principal in horror when i confided my son started 1st grade the next yr...LOL.....and i had done the same thing in school only i demanded payment in hotwheels...hehehehehe

What i meant and it may not have sounded right. It takes guts to charge someone who is employing the charger strategy. If someone is on your arse constantly most people tend to run; this may not be the best strategy. If someone is one you like a buzzsaw it does take guts to charge him back. Most people tend to counter with the elusive runner or the backward runner strategies. Charging a charger takes guts.. Does it make sense now?

perhaps because they are boring to watch?

who the hell does ground work anyway?....just kidding man...it takes a long time to convert old footage to wmv files but im working on it...there IS some ground somewhere in all this mess. ...although it will be pre UFC and the whole ground awareness explosion...hehehe for some of you anyway

I think it only depends on the skill level and tools used in the fight. If the guy uses only kicks I wouldn't worry too much, just block one or two of the kicks then start punching him in the face. :P
There are countless other examples of course, that can work against or for you.
In my case, if the charger is good at takedowns and avoiding punches I would probably get pwnd, he would take me to the ground.
But I train in kickboxing, and if a guy charges me in sparring or a match I usually have no problem with it. In fact it's easier if he comes in wild.
If he's equally skilled it's harder, but still, if he is swining wildly he will get nailed eventually.
