Bashing Royce is not bashing on MMA. There's not much to bash about mma except for the fact that the fighters train specifcally for competition, against a really tough opponent. MMA, in my mind, is the most effective way to train if you want to learn how to defend yourself(when youre unarmed), minus going to the ground...but you still have to know what to do(on the ground), if you end up there.

If Royce couldnt defend himself there what makes you think you can?

Because he's not nearly as well rounded as today's fighters, and he tries to use only his BJJ game to beat his opponents. Sure, Royce fights MMA, but thats not what he represents. He represents Gracie Jiu Jitsu...he thought with his superior knowledge in GJJ, that he would have a good chance in defeating Hughes.
