Ok, JJ guys who have had wrestling backgrounds in highschool and college tend to do much better in the long run than guys who have just joined a BJJ school with no MA experiance, obviously.............BUT, wrestling is definetly not a superior art when compared to BJJ or Judo. Wrestlers specialize at takedowns and throws really well and have a good side control(a BJJ/Judo side control with your knee pushed into your opponent's hip, NOT a wrestling pin). Also, in wrestling, when you go to the ground, the person on bottom goes to their stomach, so the groundwork is not complete AT ALL in wrestling. And, wrestling has many illegal holds and the person who's back touches the mat for 2 seconds loses.
Wrestling isnt just missing submissions, its missing guard passes, sweeps from guard, positioning...and well, submissions. All those things that BJJ specializes in is missing from wrestling.
Niether grappling art is superior, you have to atleast know a little from all of them, and even then its the fighter not the style. Alot of wrestling(college level and below) MIXED with the extensive ground game of BJJ is superior, combined with several tricks from Judo ofcoarse.

All of the skills learned in wrestling are easily transferred... so no it's not missing guard passes... why would it have those???? It's wrestling after all. Every thing in BJJ transfers easily. It's just missing subs. Sorry.. bring up better points.

first of all J-Luck, when you say "Judo takedowns are inferior" and thats a quote from one of your posts, you are saying Judo is inferior... Judo is takedowns after all. I wasn't just on a wild rant.


And Omoplata wow, an ADCC champion pulled gaurd on some guy with shitty Jiu Jitsu, and triangled him. I never said it wasnt effective, (and in this case Lister could have armdragged to the back, etc... Lister would have had his way grappling in any case). I just said it was fucking gay.

And as for "I dont like it because my defenses or escapes suck"... No I just prefer to stand up and FIGHT standing, not bitch out and pull gaurd. When the fight is standing, I try to throw the person or take them down. My gaurd is probably the strongest part of my game, do I pull gaurd, no. The closest thing I will ever come to pulling gaurd is flying armbars, which when practiced are fairly easy to pull off, especially when your opponents dont expect them.

My theory is why pull gaurd when I can throw your punk ass through the mat. Then take your isolated arm. Pulling gaurd is just a way BJJ people can ignore a whole range of grappling because they cant be bothered to learn standing, or are just to pussy to learn standing.

Did I say it wasnt effective, no I said it was shitty for the sport, and really fucking pussy to do. People who pull gaurd are the same people who get the takedown and Lay and Pray for their two points.. have fun winning by points bud. You deserve it.

Lister has pulled guard in plenty of street fights, in fact his master Fabio has went to court on many occasions to testify that he doesnt teach his students to be aggressive that they only fight in self defense after Dean has snapped arms......... you have been owned now shut up jr.
